Re: We'll see

The fact the encryption hasn't been broken yet is misleading. Pirates usually start by cracking the encryption that's the easiest to break, and only work on harder encryption methods when the content supported by the previous encryption is no longer satisfactory. For example, as long as Dish and ExpressVu continue to use the cracked Nagravision encryption, there's no reason for satellite pirates to crack encryptions used by other service providers such as DirecTv and Star Choice unless those services started to provide channels that Dish and Bev simply can't acquire.

Like NFL Sunday ticket?

That's one huge reason crackers would go after DirecTV...

DirecTV has been hacked numerous times before... it's just that DirecTV goes after them:

ExpressVu also has NFL Sunday Ticket. ExpressVu also has something that's difficult to obtain from US satellite companies: US network feeds in different time zones.

Since the introduction of DirecTv's P4 cards, I've yet to hear from a reliable source that they've been cracked. So for now, DirecTv could be considered an "artificially secure" service provider i.e. no valid reason to crack their current security... YET!

most times they don't even defeat the encryption but going after the cipher but rather the area where the keys are stored. In the case of BRD and HDDVD they did not crack the AES itself but they found the keys stored in memory and unlocked the encryption. Cracking modern encryption itself is not worth the time..finding the keys is much easier and takes much less effort.
