Embarq Upload issues..........

This was first noticed about 4 weeks ago running speedtests. The download tests would be fairly good but the upload tests would hang-up, spike and have very low speeds. We are talking 10 to 100 kbps at times. This issue is sporadic. If I notice delays while on the internet I usually get these results. The upload side was always rock solid until about 4 weeks ago.

I buy dsl via a private isp and they are working with Embarq about this issue. Embarq has so far not seen any problem. My isp has several customers in my area and have noticed the same issue with those customers as well. Talking to an ISP tech yesterday they think the problem is with "Redback"?

Anyone seen an issue like this before?

That sounds like something that could be in the Redback or the DSLAM. If this is the case the only thing you can do is be patient.

I'm in madison and i'm using NetTally and i have also noticed this phonomenon. not sure who you're isp is but speakeasy atlanta's tester is one that is doing it frequently just as you describe. my physical line is fine (no crc/hec/fec errors) sync rate is normal but i simply cannot get all my upstream throughput. I havent actually contacted them about this ispecific issue yet though.

We have the same ISP and I am dealing with Ed. He has been working this issue with Embarq. They have tested other customers that are in our area and see the same things with them. It seems to be an equipment issue somewhere but Embarq isn't to interested it seems. Contact Ed your location might give him another clue.

what speed are you paying for?? It sounds like the cross connect in provisioning of the dslam to talk to the redback.
If an embarq tech comes out ask him to call bmc and ask them to check this.

I have the same problem except mine isn't sporadic, started about 5 days ago, and my upload speed can't get much past 10 kbps. At one point in my 2 hour call with Embarq tech support yesterday the tech told me that "upload speed isn't guaranteed". Isn't it a little unacceptable to expect people to get by on 10 kbps upload or less? Embarq is absolutely baffled in my case as everything looks fine from their end to my modem as they tell me. I have slowness on loading pages, although pure downloading is pretty much near normal speed. Uploading is impossible...I spoke with a supervisor who had me try a tracert and the numbers looked fine on that as well. She basically told me that she didn't know if she could pass my ticket up any higher because she didn't know what else could be done.

I don't know what to do....cable is available in my area but they have caps on how much you can download/upload... sorry to vent here but it was a bit of a relief to see someone else describe my problem.
