Comcast as always will follow NOT lead.

Yet Comcast seems like the VERY last one to upgrade speeds.. Props to Charter to up their speeds when even their in financial trouble.

To think that CC is making record profits and still hasn't upped their speeds for their markets besides FiOS areas is pretty unfair.

at least Comcast will deliver the speeds of what you are paying for. Charter on the other hand .. well .. come visit the Charter forums.

If you were a Charter subscriber, you would realize what a terrible thing it is to say "props to Charter."

Seriously, though, there's a reason Charter is in financial trouble: they're incompetent. Sure, you might be provisioned for a very high speed, but as experience in my town shows, you'll be lucky to achieve half that on a good day. Charter consistently rates towards the bottom of customer satisfaction surveys for a reason.

They did up their speeds for 95% of users with downstream and upstream powerboost. For those who need very high speeds for very large files and for extended periods, buy a business account.

Charter is doing what Comcast did a year ago. In the world I live in, that's called "following."

@uslec.net

Actually, I'm in GA and had to speak to support about the shoddy speeds I was getting on my 5MB account. They said they are only expected to give 70% of their promised speeds and they consider that acceptable.

When I was with CC before this new Apt, I was on the 8MB account but they had totally unlocked my connection and I was getting insane speeds, like 18MB down. The same site, speedtest.net says I had near 3.5MB on my 5MB account.

So I complained to customer service and asked them why I should be happy with 70% when I'm paying 100% of the bill and the CSR bumped my to the 10MB line speed without charging me more. So I guess if you're in GA, want the 10MB speed NOW, and not wait till Charter gets around to it, then call the CSR and ask them about it.

Now my speeds are more reasonable and hover around 8-9.5MB down.

Hmm? That's more like the way I thought it went. Charter is the slacker between Comcast and themselves.

Have no particular need for that kind of speed. Actually, no need for that kind of price!!

I've been happily surfing along on the "free" 5MB upgrade since they did that for us some time ago, and I can EASILY say "props" to Charter for the entire 7 years I've been with them starting out at the mega fast speed of 256/128!!

Actually Charter is. Four years ago I had a friend that lived in Comcast territory and his HSI top speed was 1.5 Mbps I lived in Charter territory and we just got bumped to 3 Mbps to speed. Over the next 5 years Comcast went from 1.5 to 3 to 4 to 6 to 8 meanwhile Charter didn't do crap until late last year. Even Bellsouth was offering 6 Mbps for several months before Charter finally bumped up speeds.

Time Warner isn't exactly racing to get 15/2 speeds out. At least Comcast seems to make somewhat of an effort to consistently deliver things across their footprint. Here in LA, Time Warner gives differnet speeds depending on your zip code! For the premium tier, generally only FIOS areas are 15/2. Most of the rest are 10/1. Some areas are still stuck on 8/512!

I will state it again. I have Charter and love it. I get my advertised speeds all day long unless a temp outage. Outages are rare. Yes I understand, I am in the minority but not everyone is unhappy with there services.

Seriously! I had 10mb/1mb for like 7 months. It was good for the first 1 months where I saw 10mb/1mb 24/7 but then speed started getting worse and worse during peak hours where I would see 300ms latency and packetloss. They are just too oversubscribed and too incompetent to fix their issues. When I was seeing my download speed go below my upload speed during peak hours (upload was always awesome) I finally decided to drop charter and get 2 more phone lines and 2 more DSL lines instead (Before I was using both Charter and DSL). My 3x 6016/768k ADSL lines are far superior to when I had one DSL line + charter which was supposed to be the same approximate speed. I get about 5.35 megabits (after ATM overhead) on all 3 lines 24/7 regardless of time. Not only that but level1 peering and low latency routes.

Charter pinged 70ms to my colo'd server and DSL Extreme gets 9ms. F*%& you charter!

Chugging along on 3x 6016/768k DSL Extreme DSL lines for a combined total of just under 16 meg download and 1900 up. yay!
