N9MD : Oh well. It was bound to happen --- the same as SunRocket and Teleblend (and a few others) --- having one's credit card charged after cancelling an account.

On Sept 27, 2007 I cancelled four VoiceStick N2N accounts by sending messages via their website contact page. I received four email responses within 24 hours confirming the cancellations. And the access to the My Account areas was quickly blocked -- 11-digit phone VS number and password failed to give me access.

My MasterCard for one of the accounts (since I cleverly used a different credit card for each account) was charged $17.50 in mid November. No charges have appeared for the other accounts.

I've messaged VS asking them to explain the billing error -- notifying them of my intention to initiate a chargeback -- which I will do during the day tomorrow. (Hey, all of my chargebacks for the kaput SunRocket accounts were successful earlier this year.)

Follow-up 12/13/2007: It turns out that I had opened an account with VS in my wife's name (and her credit card on one of my corporate credit card accounts) with a United Kingdom DID -- under the N2N Plan. I never got around to using this account.

Since I never got an email to this account's address regarding the revised charges, I did not get around to cancelling the account.

Within 36 hours of two clarifying emails from me yielding two email responses from a charming CSR at VS, I have been assured that the credit card charges will be reversed as a "gesture of good will."

I remind all of that which I have mentioned so often in the past. The first few contacts should always be low key, non-threatening, and contain factual information (not anger or threats or whining). It works every time!

Reverse (incorrect) logic!

"E911 SERVICE IS NOT OFFERED ON VIRTUAL NUMBERS, TOLL-FREE NUMBERS OR SIMILAR SERVICE ACCESSORIES OR ADD-ON PLANS" because you do not dial out on these numbers, so there is absolutely no need for E911 accessibility!

Virtual numbers by definition are DID#s (Direct Inbound Dialing numbers) used specifically for your friends, family, colleagues and telemarketers to call your virtual number (that's an inbound call) which is forwarded to your main number.

With rare exceptions (such as the ability at one time to make outbound calls on SunRocket virtual numbers, an error on the part of SunRocket), virtual numbers cannot be used for outbound calling.

What logic are you using when you state: Since E911 is offered on their incoming phone number...?!? E911 is for outbound calls! Any reference by you to their TOS simply reflects a syntactical error committed by VoiceStick.

hfrisch : I think that their virtual number is an "extra" real DID that can be added to an account. If you have multiple DID's, you only pay for E911 once (reasonable, IMHO).

The 333 numbers don't count - at least I have not been charged.

Although I didn't bother to read the referenced VoiceStick TOS, trafael1, I can state that a virtual number by definition is an incoming number (not outgoing). It is designed to provide callers in a nearby or distant geographic location with a "virtual" number local to them. This allows your callers to dial the virtual number without incurring tolls -- and the call comes in on your main number.

I'm confused though... is this $1.50 for outbound only accounts? N2N are still around $4 a month in fees?

Same here. I also use Onesuite and Magicjack. Onesuite primarily for my outgoing (prepaid and voip) and Magicjack serves as my back up. Almost signed up with VS early this year but chose not to fortunately I guess.

No. Onesuite is $2.95 a month, unlimited incoming. 2.5 cents outgoing. But I use magicjack for outgoing, so my total between the two is less than $7 per month.

jeffnyc : There was another thread comparing other providers that offer similar feature as i2bridge. Also, Onesuite doubles as a calling card for the same rates as voip so you can call from any phone and connect the same way as i2bridge. And they have quick dial features too so you dont have to enter your pin uf calling from a recognized number that u enter online. Only downside is if you care that the receiving caller sees your caller id.

Edit: Steve, I just recorded my outgoing voicemail message on Onesuite so I am not sure why you say that. The voicemail system sounds the same as Voicestick and Sunrocket. Same annoying woman's voice for all 3 services (well now 2) and probably other voip providers as well.

Still waiting on port request from 10/22.

I'm 100% onesuite and magicjack once my port is successful.
For under $7 a month total, I keep my number, have unlimited calls, can still make int'l calls if need be though rates are slightly higher, and have 2 lines. And on my 2nd year of magicjack, that cost will drop to under $5 a month. (OS - $2.95/mo, MJ $40/12 $3.33/mo 1st year, $20/12 $1.67/mo 2nd) Can't beat it...

Since they are charging the fees now, for the same money I ported to Callcentric. I prefer to have e 911 service. There are some porting and set up fees but their web interface is excellent and the e mail customer service is 5 star !. Clear, concise responses in minutes to a couple of hours even on Sunday. I had a couple of AC 211 set up difficulties, audio, codec,registration values. Their support solved them in a few e mails in a couple of hours. I guess I'll spend about $8 / month total if that.

I looked at OneSuite but you have to use their canned answering message, can't record your own ? I guess unless you fwd to another number.

Took about 14 days to port from VS. Left $.65 with them when I left.

Just to add. I tested the VS e 911 one Sunday morning. I got connected to a "qualified" (private) e 911 operator / call center. It was routed through India at $.15 / min. but answered in the USA. They did not have any data for my call. I know I was registered too.

I tested my Callcentric e 911 this past Sunday. Dialed 911. Routed through a MN number, answered by my official local 911 authority. They had my address but a 777 CC number on their screen.

What does your next invoice (billing) date say? While it is not logged in my call history, my account balance was reduced by the $4.50 on that date.

Also, does anyone have a balance lower than $4.50 and can still make calls?

I have about $7.50 and I am wondering once they deduct the next $4.50 if it will give me the full month to use up the left over change....

Jeff ... keep in mind that cancelling a number before porting it out may block the port. I realize that you want to port out a number which you originally ported in --- but just be aware of this caveat. Probably if you start an outward port quickly, your number should still be available to you.

CID shows your Voicestick number 1333123XXXX. If you call that number from outside Voicestick's network you get "your call can not be completed as dialed."

Change your account to outbound only and avoid monthly charges. If you plan to give up the number anyway, use your deposit for more outbound and see how they do. The basic service has always been good for me.

I looked at my online account, and it showed a balance now of a negative; $-2.45. So, I assume they deducted a monthly charge. I won't put more money into the account. It's still a good service for some people, but it was mostly a backup service for me. I was only doing a couple hundred minutes a month. Not that important to me. I have 2 other services, so I'm not concerned. Later... Mike.....

Outbound is working and I can log into my account. All good. My August usage billed at around $15, September at $5 and this month about $.10 in test calls. The current offering is good for some of my calls and nicely fits my setup.

What's wrong with this picture? ...

I'm not sure I want to risk another $10 on Voicestick. In July I had a strong positive feeling.

I was evaluating of using VS as a 2nd provider...

I asked for a refund (+10.00) and was informed that 1. I did not add more than $10.00, 2. I was not qualified for a refund anyways as my N2N was opened more than 2 months ago

Shortly after that email, I was no longer able to use my VS number(;

VS GL in the competative, constantly evolving VOIP bus.

I'm not complaining about the cost. I'm complaining about Voicestick's ongoing lack of notice before significant changes. Probably in violation of their own written terms. I did not get a Voicestick email detailing this latest change. I lost outbound and login rights to my account without notice while I had a prepaid balance. I could not get a responsive answer by phone, web or email. I finally requested plan changes based on what I read here. Again, I didn't get a responsive answer but Voicestick slowly restored access, feature by feature. I'm not asking for a refund and wish Voicestick the best, but, choose to pay my monthly fees to a more responsive vendor.

cbrain : I'm converted and outbound is now working. Don't know when it got fixed. CID shows the new 1333123xxxx number. If you try to call back that number from a non VoiceStick line you get call cannot completed as dialed. I wonder what response I'll get from people I call. :D

I think VoiceStick handled the past 3 months poorly and lost all goodwill built from free inbound, but, in retrospect, get the impression they are a bunch of techs not comfortable communicating with people. They needed cash and reacted without a lot of thinking. I won't trust them for my incoming number but I'll continue to send some outbound and hope they get things together. Anyone looked at their latest financials?

I wasn't planning on being a low volume subscriber. I started on the N2N plan to see if Voicestick was worth porting to. Two days after I sent in my LNP request, voicestick implemented the charge for inbound calls.

I still though Voicestick was the best choice out there at the time. But I saw reports of double billing issues for using the ibridge. Then the support number disappeared for a time.

Finally, after two emails and 2 weeks, I was told that Voicestick lost my LNP request and asked that I resubmit it.

Voicestick became too risky for me, and I didn't plan to use it other than for testing purposes until my Teleblend number ported. Today I canceled it altogether.

Funny ... I'm down too, but instead of being angry, I'm relieved. I got notice Voicestick switched my account to outbound only. At least I won't need to fight to change service or fight future credit card charges. I hope they fix it but if they don't, forget it.

cbrain : I just got a similar email assigning me a new 1333 number. I can now login to the My Account page. Either number lets me register with i2telecom.com with the same old password. My incoming number is dead. Good so far. Neither login allows me to make outbound calls. I returned their email with the status but won't worry about outbound until next week ... after they've taken care of all other problems. ;)

An interesting point ... but don't forget Voicestick thought up and offered this plan. We accepted and followed their terms. We didn't steal anything or force anything on them. Had they done a better transition, I would have moved to a monthly payment plan as I suspect many others would. I would have done it 6 months or more ago. In fact, their free status kept me from using them more. By surprising us without notice when we discovered charges for incoming calls, Voicestick lost both trust and credibility. I still attempted to make contact for 2 weeks to gain an understanding of their status and decide what plan made sense for me. They failed to answer by any method to date and are continuing that practice. How smart would it be to upgrade to an unlimited account under these circumstances and in Sunrockets wake. I'll still give them a chance, but they must prove themselves.

global_dev : you may be correct; regardless, this generates negative customer response and its hard to shake a reputation for applying changes without complying with your own TOS.

It definitely makes me want to close both of my accounts (one N2N and one annual). The N2N is closed.

Perhaps RockyBB explanation is why VS is responding to cancellation tickets so promptly.

VoiceStick seems to be saying ... we have your money and your credit card number. We now need a minimum new deposit of $10 to $25 for you to enjoy the privilege of keeping the funds you previously advanced us. Our plans have changed without notice and in violation of our own terms so your previously deposited funds will go to satisfy our new pricing if you don't advance us more money. We simply have no way to administratively handle your advance without getting more of your money. We promise not to do this again until the next time.

While I think it's great that we as customers are finding this out before it's even posted on their website, I think they should spend a little more time on things like the website (which many of us will go to for more information) and customer notification emails.
I really wouldn't be surprised to wake up one morning and find that VoiceStick and all three of their employees have gone fishing for good.
I like the prices VoiceStick has on international rates and I like paying for service as I use it. I want VoiceStick to "stick" around and I understand them needing to be profitable. I don't mind the charges so much as I despise the lack of confidence it instills in me about the company.

I also agree with montano. If I chose to purchase something from say Amazon over BestBuy, one of the reason is the price difference from taxes. Voicestick N2N plan was a great deal, now they are charging for everything, incoming calls, calling voicemail, checking voicemail, double billing i2bridge calls etc. And a lot of their issues have not been resolved -i.e. some people still cannot access voicemail prompts from outside lines by pressing asterisk (issue for over 2 months)/

Voicestick has a right to make money but there service, reliability and policies have really degraded over the past 2 months making them less attractive than many (not all) of their voip competitors.

The words sound good but the problem is I no longer trust VoiceStick. This is the second time in 45 days you made a major change with no or inadequate notice. You can set your prices any way you want and I can choose to buy or go elsewhere. Once I make a decision I expect reasonable notice of change. Two business days before the change takes effect and I have not received notice from VoiceStick. Is that reasonable? How many alternative providers could get service up in that period? If I needed these services and was willing to pay the price, I would still have an issue with paying anyone doing business this way.

If what I read here is true, I would like to terminate all but the outgoing until I deplete my funds. At that time I can decide whether to buy more, but without an open ended, I accept whatever you bill my card ultimatum. I would agree to your charging the last call if it went over or to your cutting the call. If you prefer, kill my service and refund my balance.

How do I get this done before your deadline?

anon : Actually, I thought the same thing but if you click the link it asks you if you want a phone number for inbound calling. Then the fees are displayed at that point. So technically you can get the N2N plan for outbound calling free.

Last I checked, their webpage is still offering the N2N plan with absolutely no mention of these added fees.

In order to comply with government regulations and industry trends, it has become necessary that we discontinue our policy of waiving regulatory fees and taxes.

Starting October 1, 2007 ALL VoiceStick customers with a valid telephone number and an active account will be subject to the following fees:

Telephone Number (monthly recurring fee) $1.50
E-911 Regulatory Recovery (monthly recurring fee) $1.00
Universal Service Fund (monthly recurring fee) $1.25
To avoid service interruption all customers must have a valid credit card on file to cover these new charges.

If you would to convert your existing account to an i2Outbound Only calling plan Send a Request to Customer Service. To ensure the quickest possible response to your request please select Plan Conversion from the Department dropdown list.
