1 edit | [Help] File corruption . Recovery tools?
Forgot I had Seagate's Diskwizard installed. The stupid thing inserts data into the boot sector without prompt when inserted into a machine that cannot address all the drive space. I use cold-swap trays & accidentally mounted two drives into an old box. Win2k then decided to run a chkdisk and many files were corrupted. To make matters worse I didn't now any of this until after dsfragging one of the two. Files on that drive are probably unrecoverable.
I can make the space on other drives, copy over, re-write boot sector and see what happens with another checkdisk but I'm hoping to find a tool designed to deal with this. Standard recovery software scan bit-by-bit to find begin/jump/end markers to reconstitute deleted files but I suspect that technique won't work in this case [?].
Tips & tool referrals much appreciated. This is 360gb of data. Stupid mistake . |
