FIOS TV Billing Joke

Oh my GOD!

I got my latest bill. When I got my cable cards last month for the Tivo I turned in my HD set top box. Well, latest bill came around - they were still charging me for the HD STB.

I called to have it removed. After on and off holds of 60 minutes - the rep came back and told me everything would be taken care of - but she'd have to call me back on Monday. (It was now after 6pm, so i guess she was going home from Billing)

60 f'ing minutes to remove a set top box from an account??

Jesus - thank God i'm having a drink right now.

It seems everytime someone gets rid of a STB that it stays on their bill for months. I'm afraid to make any changes to my account. It shouldn't be this way.

It's all good.

My Comcast install is set for next week. I'm doing a 1 month trial to compare.

This may be my last month with FIOS TV.

I never had a billing problem on Comcast (that I remember - if I did it wasn't that bad), but looking at their crap picture day and night was a trial.

I hope you're happy there, but I'm not laying odds on it. You seem like a PQ guy. Their "we convert analog channels to digital and call them digital channels" channels are terrible. Then they compress the hell out of their true digital channels.

Unless that's changed since June.

Gee Matt, at $550 each those things are expensive aren't they?? Oh, my bad, they are only charging you the DVR fee, they haven't hit you with the bill yet for it being stolen or damaged yet.

You should try having them charge you for 3 some time like the did to me. Get a Fios bill for $1480.25 some time.

Then they erase the charges, only to have them come back on the following months bill.

Good luck with Comcast, their New Castle County system used to only be a 750MHz plant, but I have seen them doing major upgrades to the existing 870MHz system around here, maybe they have done the same for Wilmington as well.

Some Comcast markets have already been pushed to 1GHz.

My only concern might be that they want to utilize the existing coax in your home, or charge you to rewire the whole house again.

But he hasn't had good luck with Fios all year either. Pixellation every week, etc. You could only take so much.

Comcast install is set for Monday afternoon.

I'm doing a 1 STB - one month trial on the 50" plasma.

My awesome contact at Comcast (yes, it pays to keep friends and insiders) got me hooked up. Time to see the HD and SD comparisons.

AND - time to watch Vs/Golf HD, TBS-HD, and the NHL Network.

For all you Big 10 fans, word over on AVSForum - mid 2008 before VZ will add it.

KA3-
They will have to run 1 new line of coax in the house for me - from outside the house to the Plasma. Then, if in a month I move over - i'll just use the existing FIOS coax for the other 2 TV's.

Maybe I should pick up a Dish VIP 211 as well and do a 3-way trial?? Lol...i'd be kicked out of my own house if I pulled that.

Matt, that would be very newsworthy, a side by side comparison of Fios, Comcast, and Dish, on 1 TV.

Verizon claims they are always monitoring their network to make sure it is better than their competition,
but the only way they seem to find out about video problems is when the customers start calling to complain.

Maybe you can get JWhip or KARL to publish a news story on your findings.

Any Bad press that any of the companies gets might help to get all cable/satellite providers to put more effort towards maintaining and improving their systems.

Maybe it's just my view on things, but I'd look at it as good press for one of the providers vs bad press for the others. But I'm not a marketing/political person. I'm always looking for the benefits one would provide over the other.

For me, it's getting to the point where Cablevision is moving ahead of FIOS, though all the Cablevision haters thought that was just impossible and FIOS was the death call for Cablevision. Since I've switched to FIOS TV CV has continued to add HD channels (VOOM, TBS now as well as others they previously didn't have). They have MSGHD and FSNYHD which FIOS doesn't have (though I'm not a hockey or pro bb fan). CV provides the local channels that FIOS doesn't (community and NJ news) as well as a more targeted weather/traffic channel. It's time to start comparing the offerings again.

Hmm maybe I should rethink switching to FiOS when it comes in early 2008 to my township. Comcast is really getting active over here, 3 HD channels to be added in 2 weeks (TBS on 10/3, NGC and NFL on 10/10) with more to come in December and January. Maybe sticking with Comcast TV and going to FiOS for internet and phone would be good, since I already have Verizon home phone service.

2 of those three are playing catchup with FiOS (we already have NGC and NFL HD). Plus, isn't NFL-HD part of the sports package on Comcast ($5 per month)?

The "final straw" with me switching to FiOS was when Comcast moved NFL Network to the sports package. It wasn't what made me switch, but it's what made me pull the trigger when I did.

Let's face it guys.
All of the providers suck in their own special ways.

I too am experiencing the overbilling by verizon when I turned in 1 of 2 DVRs and they started billing me for 3!

I've recorded every phone conversation with them and I'm scanning all my incorrect bills. When next month's bill comes if it's not set right, I'm going to get nasty.

I really think Verizon has reached a point that they need to go back to being just a Phone and Data company, and re-think the whole TV idea for a bit.

They certainly need to Fire their Video Engineering and Billing Management departments and start over there.

Of course they would want to keep rolling out their 'State Of The Art' Fios Data and Telephone services.

They need a radically different business model for Cable TV service than the one they are using now.

Geek,
Another thing to add to the CV list is Caller ID on the TV. It's coming out in November and that's another great feature in my opinion. They do seem to be passing Fios now on features.

Comcast Adds TBS-HD

Looks like I picked a great day for my Comcast install!

TBS-HD was also added overnight on Channel 220.

So, I can watch that, the Center Ice free preview, Vs/Golf HD - Mojo...

Daddy likes!

Re: FIOS TV Billing Joke

Hi,
My sentiment exactly.I was a Direct TV customer before and never really had a problem except for the HD portion. They wanted me to pay hundreds upfront for Equipment and the like.
I should not complain since my FIOS service is basically free for now.
I'll reevaluate after my year is up in FEB. Hell, the Triple play for the past year has been a little over $11.00 a month.Just the god awful 60-90 min a month to get the bill zapped to zero is a pain.

Finally set up.

Wow - i'm surprised how nice the HD is looking on Comcast.

And, the Padres / Rockies game on TBS-HD looked great.

They do the same thing to HD channels as Verizon at this point: Nothing. Untouched.

It doesn't hurt that you're (I'm assuming) watching through your TiVo and not a POS motorola box.
