Re: Verizon DSL Service In Baltimore,MD?

I really cannot speak for the speed issues, however, I can surely say that the brand of DSL modem ABSOLUTELY does NOT matter. So long it is ADSL/ADSL2/ADSL2+ compatible, all you have to do is adjust the VPI/VCI (Virtual channel) settings. Also, you just have to edit the PPPoE login information on the Zyxel modem's diagnostics. (I don't know exactly how to do this on Zyxel modems, though, you'll have to post on the equipment forums for that).
Hope this helps
Cheers

I'm in Baltimore with Earthlink 3.0/384 dsl formerly provisioned by Covad. I had always gotten close to those speeds on most of the test servers that I used. Now I've found through the Earthlink forum that the line is provisioned by Verizon. Verizon is the local co. in Baltimore. My modem now shows 3360/800. Since the change from Covad provisioning my download speeds are far worse than they've ever been. On the servers that are closer to me-Washington-the download speeds are fairly close. When I use a far away server-west coast- the download speeds drop by half or worse but the upload speeds read the same plus all the tests now indicate my isp as Verizon instead of Covad.

I"ve spoken to EL support and was told everything looks fine on their end so no help there. I'm thinking, especially with VZ current promotion I would pay a little less than I do with EL, maybe I should just sign up for their service. So I'm wondering what the service is like in the Baltimore area-I live downtown. Also since I currently have DSL could I use my current modem-Zyxel P600, or would I absolutely have to use whatever VZ sent me?
