[Other] Reverse phone number

This is a little off topic but nut sure of a better place to ask.

Without getting into why but I need to do a reverse phone lookup of a number. Anyone have any recommendations best site to use? The free ones only give the carrier name and city.

Mods if not appropriate for this forum please delete.

I just use google (fast and "free"). If the number is on any public web page (including forum posts) indexed by google, out will pop the web page (or web pages), which will often tell you exactly who the number belongs to.

For example, if I didn't already know that 1-800-569-6972 was an at&t prepaid phone card, I could easily find that info out by doing a google of: 800-569-6972
(i.e. put the number into google using the "aaa-nnn-nnnn" format)

And you get this result:

NOTE:
While google doesn't always give a business for a given number, it's amazing how often it does. I've sometimes used this little trick to figure out who is trying to call us, based upon the number on my phone's callerID. If it's someone we care about, we might call them back. But if a google search shows some marketing company (or worse yet, finds forum posts complaining about fraud coming from that phone number), they never hear from us again!

NOTE: Yes, we are on the "do not call list" (at least we were the last time I checked). However, in part due to to all the loopholes in the DNC list, that only cuts down on annoying marketing calls, it doesn't eliminate them entirely...

Thinks guys for you help. I decided to just go ahead and file a police report on the problem and let them deal with it.

BTW. This is a Cell phone. More than likely with Cincinnati Bell. Was about all I was able to figure out. Wasn't sure if any of the pay reverse sites could give me any more information. If you know of one that does pass it along. Still might come in handy.

Just to follow up on this. The police as usual are no help. They need a call trace *57 in order to do anything. I don't think that works with voip. One fact that he did tell us was that in Ohio only one person needs to be aware of a call being recorded and recommended we call the number and ask them to stop.
