He is 59-85 as a head coach. He has singlehandely taken one of the best teams in the NFL the last 3 years and turned them into shit.
And why? Just because Marty can't win in the postseason? Well that's just bad luck IMO. But you have to get it done in the regular season to have a chance.
Why this guy isn't fired already is beyond me. |

By the way they didn't fire him because of the postseason thing they fire him because they couldn't get along with him. |

I could have won the SB coaching the team that Barry Switzer had after Jimmy Johnson left. He did crap after. Dallas had 3 of the worst right in a row i figure. Yes, Norv sucks and I said it the whole time they were looking at him. He is at best an OC and that is it. -- ~Team Discovery ~ Project Hope ~ |

But the title of worst coach should belong to Chalie Weiss. -- Always go to other people's funerals, otherwise they won't come to yours.

This team changed its entire coaching staff, offensive style and playcalling, defensive style and playcalling.
Don't blame Norv. Blame the jackass management and ownership that had no regard for how good of a job Schottenheimer did... and cared more about how well they got along.
They have a LONG way to go before they get comfortable in their new offense and defense. Add in a quarterback that is still young, just got a handle on the offense last season, and now has to learn and master a totally different one.
This is a GIGANTIC management and ownership debacle. |

No actually Charlie Weiss just has no talent to work with yet. He will need a few years for him to sign recruits. Weiss did a good job last year when he had some talent.
Norv Turner took control of one of the most talented teams in the NFL the last 3 years, like Barry Switzer did in Dallas as another poster said. He won't have it any easier than that. And his record speaks for itself.
And the management is too blame as well. Changing everything when you were so close.
Struggling is one thing, but getting blowed out at home by Kansas City who will be lucky to win 6 games this year is rediculous with the talent he has to work with. |

| reply to pro7070 Best article I've ever read on Norv Turner, who's a terrible head coach but always avoids blame: Turner Attributes Poor Coaching Record To Poor Coaching
quote: Norv Turner, newly hired head coach of the San Diego Chargers, is being forced to defend his lousy track record just one day into his new job. Addressing criticisms of his 58-82 record in stints with the Washington Redskins and the Oakland Raiders, Turner claimed there were extenuating circumstances in both cases, namely that he was a shitty coach.
Obviously when you see '58-82' you think okay, this guy can coach to save his life, Turner said. Thats understandable. But try to remember that things arent always what they seem. Oftentimes a coach can be victimized by poor players, injuries, or just plain bad luck. That wasn't the case with me, though. I just wasn't a good coach. Luckily we have a lot of great players here who are capable of overcoming that, and I'm going to make it a priority to stay out of their way. So if we don't go to the Super Bowl, it's really just a matter of our players being unable to overcome adversity.
 -- Sure, that'll work.. |

cbrigante2Cubs 20??Premium join:2002-11-22 North Aurora, IL | I agree that Norv is a bad coach. The Bears are also stuck with his brother Ron at OC, and he has yet to dazzle me as well. I realize the Bears don't exactly have the best offensive weapons to work with, and the players have been making a lot of fundamental mistakes... but when you have a 3rd and 6 and Ron Turner calls a short comeback route for a gain of 3 yards, it's time to start calling for heads. |

pro7070BJ "The Prodigy" PennPremium join:2002-06-28 Inman, SC kudos:1 | reply to pro7070 I heard an interesting stat today on ESPN radio. They were talking about Norv Turner's offensive scheme. This guy said that the Chargers have lined up in the I formation 40 times this year with Lorenzo Neal at Fullback and of course LT at tailback. This is their base offensive formation. From this formation they have ran the ball 38 of 40 times. Pretty predictable. On those 38 runs they have only 81 yards rushing.
The basis of the story the guy was telling is that Norv Turner thinks his scheme should work as long as the players execute. Never mind the fact that the damn defense knows you are going to run that ball from that formation (38 of 40 times). Hey Norv, ever thought of running a play action pass? Or running from a different formation occasionally? What a dope. |
