Fix current issues before next upgrades..

Fact: TW should fix their network issues period.

Fact: TW offers different speeds over all regions. Why? Good question.

I get good stable service from TW, but I can see how the two facts above can be very annoying; especially #1. I've had good results when talking with tech support to resolve an issue but I noticed I constantly had to keep reminding the techs that I did this or tried that - or else they'd, for some unknown reason, start at the beginning if my issue still wasn't fixed after a certain amount of time. The thing I don't understand is how so many people can compare TW to Verizon? If FiOS is avilable for you, then jump the (insert cable operator name here) ship and go to VZ. Until then, you're stuck with whatever service you currently have so you can either put up with it or ditch it and spend that $45 on something else.

Judging from a few comments to this article, it almost sounds like some ppl believe they're entitled to 100/100 (ok, exaggeration) or that FiOS speeds should be the norm. This is troubling because more often than not, somebody wants that bandwidth for $40/month - not to mention that FiOS itself has such a small footprint. Maybe this is a mentality of those who live in FiOS/OOL areas? At least 95% of the rest of the net users in the U.S. won't have fiber, or the next gen whatever, for a while (years?).

Granted 1mbit up is FAR from news - I agree that it'd be nice if ISPs would offer 10% of the download as upload (5/512, 10/1, 15/1.5 [2 for OOL], 20/2) but there is more at hand and at stake here unfortunately. The truth will come out in a few years when VZ, AT&T and other Telcos have their FTTN/FTTH/whatever deployed to a degree where customer satisfaction, internet/tv performance, etc etc can reliably be measured. And how will DOCSIS3.0 & other technologies fair?

For now, things are still in the planning/implementation stages.

Entitled? Nah. Truth is I'm quite pleased with the price and performance of my 10/1 service for "$55 minus discounts" from TW. The speeds are hands down better than DSL and the included newsgroup service makes it a good value for me.

I'm well aware of the issues with the upstream saturation on DOCSIS 1.1/2.

But looking across the LA footprint, TW seems to be able to pull 15/2 off. For $55/month. So, if I were living in NYC, I wouldn't be too pleased with having to pay $70/month just to reach 1mbps up, especialy now that they're "giving away" 1mbps up out to Hawaii for $45/month in the same announcement! Oh, and then you have Ohio where there's no FIOS at all, but they're rolling out 15mbps there.

I'm happy with my service and the value I'm getting, but I don't appreciate the lack of consistency. It's so bad in LA they don't even reveal specific speeds for extreme service in the majority of their advertising! Makes sense, because the speeds cited in the literature that you do find is almost always outdated and wrong. So, they're shooting themselves in the foot. I can't even recommend TW's service to a friend because I have no idea what the speeds might be in their zip code.

It's clear TW is being highly reactive to competitve pressure rather than just be a market leader. Comcast seemed to do much, much better in the consistency department in this regard. Optimum Online has had DSL-crushing speeds with cable for years and years. FIOS is all over "this footprint" being the greater LA market. So the "Footprint" excuse doesn't really wash with me.

Bottom line, I just wish they'd figure out what speeds they want to offer nationally and try to stick with them.
