| Tomato 1.09 - whr-hp-g54s buffalo router
I have this router running WHR-HP-G54 Ver.1.40 (1.0.37-1.08-1.03) firmware. I can't seem to load tomato (or any other 3rd party) firmware. I have tried tftp manually, the linksys version of tftp, and the whr_install.bat file included with the 1.09 release. Using win xp, the nic is set to static ip address 192.168.11.2, 255.255.255.0 and 192.168.11.1 for gateway. When using the linksys tftp, the upgrade starts, the graph fills about 40% of the way and freezes as the router turns on the red light and continues to boot into stock firmware. With the whr_install.bat (and reading the messages) it goes to the :PING routine and waits for the router to come alive, then falls into the tftp -i etc. routine and the indicator on the router for the lan connection begins to blink as if it's loading firmware. But less than 5 seconds later the red light comes on and the router boots into stock firmware again and the tftp line fails with a timeout error. I've worn out the reset button on the router making sure it's reset to stock. Can someone fill me in on what I'm missing here? Probably something simple but I can't see it.
Thanks in advance for the help |

| I had the same problem, then I just simply changed to another "lan" port and it worked...I don't know why, but that cured the problem -- Alltel DSL 3000/384 SS 4200 on 7 Boxes, 2 wired 5 wireless running 3 WRT54G's (Tomato v1.07 firmware) as wireless repeaters |

| reply to tg144 Your hardware may be right on some timing precipice. Can you hook a switch or hub between the computer and radio to keep the computer NIC alive ? When the radio does power up into the stock firmware are you able to log into it's gui with the NIC settings you are currently using ? Do you have some funky 3rd party firewall or security software that may be restricting the outbound traffic to the "new" IP address ? |

| reply to tg144 Thank you all for the suggestions. Turns out that even when I 'shut down' my security suite it still leaves the firewall running, just doesn't let me know what's going on anymore - apparently the now silent firewall didn't like my moving software to the router. Once I killed the firewall process the whr-hp-g54s loaded first try with 1.09. The firewall had me 'protected' more than I wanted.
Thanks again as I would not have thought of this and have a great day. |
