Vonage Horror Stories

Ripoffreport.com has 247 complaints. Why do any of you tolerate them? I had them a month and cancelled.

200 out of 2 000 000 customers isn't that bad.

Just like with a lot of other voip providers; If the service works good and stays that way, They generally forget that it's voip!
Voip can only be as good as the weakest link in the connection.

I stay with Vonage because it has worked great for me. Once they finally got ACR I've have absolutely no complaint at all. Vonage is great. My only worry is that due to all of the lawsuits out there they won't be around much longer. Other than that, I am very happy with Vonage.

So, why did you cancel?

I've had Vonage for almost 5 years. I have nothing bad to say about them. However, the cancellation pains do appear to be unacceptable.

I always love reading these "horror stories", the majority of which are spur-of-the-moment rants. The bad spelling and grammar usually gives it away.

I particularly like the woes of this person: »www.ripoffreport.com/reports/0/2···5317.htm. I'm not sure which is more stupid - the person who expects to use Vonage over dial-up, or the fact that AT&T seem to think that Vonage should know that the user is too far from the CO to get DSL.

He canceled because 247 others did. Peer pressure...

I move to vonage two months ago. No problem so far. All together I have been using voip 4-5 years now. No reason to go back.

They've been terrific for me over the past few years, and I left them for sunrocket. After they went bust, vonage was the first to have a fricken offer in the mail, lol.

It just shows you can't please everyone in this world. No company has 100% satisfaction. Someone will always be unhappy with something. If your going to try to slam a company that has 2 mil users you might want to come up with better evidence than 247 complaints out of 2 million users.

Honestly I've had Vonage since Oct 15 2004 and it's been rock solid. Why would I want to change ?

Your Vonage service quality will largely depend upon your existing broadband connection.

For a while, from 1999 till 2005, I had Optimum Online from Cablevision. From 2004 until the present, we've had Vonage. We started with 1 line, and currently have 3. Our OOL connection was very good, though at peak times traffic on my node would get a little congested, and as a result, I'd have the occasional hiccup or stutter on my Vonage voice line. Out of their control, and I was well aware of the issue. It continued to pass the "mom/daughter/wife test", and since the features were fantastic as was the price, we kept Vonage.

In 2005, we signed up for Fios from Verizon. Since then, our Vonage line has been exceptional. No problems, outstanding quality and service. Sure, there is the few time per year 3-6 hour outage or the the hiccup in the voicemail system, but for the price, feautres, and quality, I love it.

I had 1mb up (12/1 service with Cox at the time). It was a pain to set up, and, thank God, I didn't port any number to these bozos. People said they heard echos and called and no connection. I cancelled within 15 days actually.

Again, it is only as strong as the connection. You can have great speeds but it could have latency spikes, high jitter, etc. That will affect VoIP worse than lower speeds.

I had 6/512 on my old cable provider, but the node must have been oversold as in the evening the quality would go downhill. After switching to DSL, my VoIP quality has greatly improved.

Vonage works fine for me

I've had Vonage for several years, and use their UTStarcom F1000 wi-fi phone. It works every time I use it, and the audio is very good. I also use it when travelling in Europe and other places, where hotels normally have wi-fi connections.

I only have one suggestion for Vonage, and that is to allow a wi-fi phone customer also to have access to the software method of calling when a wi-fi connection is not available. That is, without having to purchase a second account/phone number.

There must have been some other issue on your line, packet loss or latency that was causing issues on your end. If that were the case, it would be out of Vonage's control.

(For me, I had some water damage at my tap which took Cablevision months to come and fix. The techs on the phone insisted nothing was wrong with my line, but after months of issues, I insisted a tech come out. When he came out, he found water damage at my tap. Once fixed, my VoIP calls improved.)

I was with Vonage for two years +. I put up with lower call quality because it saved me over 25 bucks a month. When POTS service became cheaper and VoIP competition increased, Vonage became less attractive.

When my router needed to be rebooted 4-6 times a day or more to get a dial tone, Vonage became a nuisance at any price. They sent a *reconditioned* router that helped for maybe 36 hours. I asked for them to send me a Motorola router, but they refused. The very unhelpful rep told me it was my responsibility to get a reliable router. Since they provided the equipment, I told her, and it is necessary for the service to work properly, I indicated that in the interest of customer service and in light of all the problems I have had as a loyal customer for over two years, they should make it easy for me to correct the problem.

I won't go into the inane conversation the clueless rep had with me; I told her to cancel the *service* since I wasn't getting any service anyway.

I defended Vonage and their crap VoIP for far too long. It was never great, only better than paying a higher price. In the end, not really worth all the aggravation and complaints from the War Department when the phone was out.

Stick a fork in Vonage, they are done.

I get superb quality with Vonage, more often then not, your quality depends on the quality of the broadband connection that you have, which is independent of your VOIP provider unless they are one in the same.

5 years plus for me too - POTS free - some minor issues (ISP related) along the way.

For the amount of $$ I have saved over time - it was a great choice and have never considered going somewhere else...
