That is a nifty feature -- I wonder if we'll start seeing modems that can run other loop diagnostics.

price wise

Yes they replaced the 4100b's and are at the same price they were. Which I think is $49.95+ tax(state)+ s&h (flat:$12.95 typically). It makes it about the same price at your door shipped as opposed to a best buy run. I think at most it's either $1 more or less than a best buy run. I know it's not much greater than that. As far as availability, I would wait about a week or two before ordering so the 4100b stockpiles can be depleted.

Dennis See Profile has one and so far is quite impressed. It don't have a power button but then again, the power cord is not that far away from where the power button was.

Another interesting feature that was pointed out is they are defaulted to "connect on demand" as opposed to "smart keep alive" People with routers may have to go in and adjust this, but it's not that difficult to do and no more complex than the 4100b was.

I am pushing another good idea for just the basic modem is to put a dial-up counter part in it so if you lose sync you can report it and still have dial up capabilities, even though you don't have a dial up modem in your computer. Which some new computers now a days are not coming with dial up modems in them. I am hoping in the near future at&t will consider it. Even if it was just $5-10 more at most, most people would probably consider it because USB dial up modems are around that price and they don't have to add more equipment to the computer or have the computer in the shop to have a dial up modem installed.
