Re: how about lower power consumption?

While it's always nice to save power, I hardly think these devices pull enough to matter.

sounds a lot like the "my one vote doesn't count" b.s.

it does matter.

..does it?

How much is that router/modem costing per month? and how much do you think you can save?

sounds more like "I want 'my vote' to count no matter what it is" b.s. to me.

It really doesn't matter. The amount of energy they use is pennies. Let's talk light bulbs, televisions, the fridge, water heater and other devices first.. I'll gladly flip to twenty five cents to power a modem.

it does. the idea that one device (or vote) makes such a small difference that is not worth considering or changing is defeatism.

the point isn't that there are other devices that use more energy than a modem. of course there are. you successfully managed to list two of the top 3 hungry devices in a typical home.

the point is that even something as small and simple as a dsl modem (usually left on 24/7) consumes power, and reducing the amount of power it consumes has many benefits including saving consumers money over the product life cycle.

While most devices these days are automatically designed to use less power than the device they are replacing, this one does have a specific power-saving feature built into it.

It's on the back of the modem, labeled "On-Off".

"defeatism" ? What kind of a war are you fighting? I'd first have to be at war with someone or something to be "defeated"... I simply DON'T CARE! It hardly uses any electricity..

When a device, such as this, uses so little energy, it's not worth, IN MY OPINION, worrying about it. I could go off on this topic but it would only anger the moderator gods..

WI Fire said it best.. want it to use less power? turn it off. To do otherwise is "lazy-ism"..
