Hi Cityfolk,
I live up here near the Ashokan Reservoir, and I thought I would post this picture that I took of the Catskills. In the foreground is YOUR future water! I guess it must take a couple of days for it to get down there, but there it is. It's lookin' a little dry up here. We haven't had a good rain in over a month, so get out and do a rain dance for yourselves, and what's left of my tomatoes!
FYI -- I took this Sunday, and just got around to stitching the panorama together. I kept the file size down, so the resolution suffers, but you get the picture.

I'm glad you brought this up -- one thing I've been noticing over the last year, maybe year and a half, is that the water levels have been significantly lower. When I look at a lake or pond, I can see how far back its receded. Anyone else notice this?

Yeah we received a lot of rain over the first half of the year and much of the summer. It's just a short dry period for now. Once the reservoirs dip below 60-65%, then we should start worrying about more drastic conservation measures.

| A large part of the southern tier of upstate had the worst floods in history. Town after small town looked like New Orleans.
Some are still living in FEMA trailers as far as I know.

1 edit | Also flooding occurred along the Mohawk River effecting many towns. Section of the NYS Thruway was closed as well as washouts on CSX's (ex-NYC, PC, Conrail) Chicago Line.
Because of NS's (Ex-Erie, EL, Conrail) Southern Tier Line being out of service along with the Chicago Line, all train service was on hold. The D&H main was also washed out. Major highways were closed. The effects went beyond New York State because of the transportation problems.
And sadly, there was also a lost of lives in this flooding. |
