United Palace Theatre - Wash. Hgts. (I'm comin!)

OK, I'm coming to town next weekend for a Van Morrison concert at the restored, Historic, United Palace Theatre in Washington Heights. Yippee! Has anyone been here recently? I'm coming with a female companion who has never in her life been to NYC, and she's quite excited about the journey. She's also a lifelong Van Morrison fan and has never seen him perform. Are all the seats good? I know the theatre is beautiful, but is the sound equally spectacular? Are we gonna be able to get an A train back downtown after the show? So many questions...

On a side note... I haven't been able to hook up with the people at my normal NYC residence for a place to crash for a couple days. Do any of my NYC friends have a sofa or spare room for two extremely well-behaved, housebroken adults? Basically, just a place to sleep, and we'll be out of your hair, being that my friend has never been to the City and I'll be draggin' her all over town on a whirlwind tour in a short couple of days before our 10.5 hr bus ride back up North. PM me if you have suggestions.

Edit: Oh, oh... also, since it's been awhile since I've seen you all in the flesh, maybe an impromtu unofficial M&G?

Hmm... "beer over two"... sounds like my kind of "meet". We'll have to do the math on that one, eh? I was never good with fractional equations.

Now... does anyone have feedback on the theatre?

Yes, we're planning to, wherever we land in the city. How far from the 175th St station to the theatre?

Some great memories of that theater from the 50s and 60s. It wasn't The Paradise but it was close. The koi in the fountain, the magnificent stairway and the loge seats.

I live about 4 blocks away .. It's nice outside just maybe not as nice you would like or use to.

There's a couple of restaurants across which is good. Take advantage of the delicious Spanish food.

BTW My father's cousin are the owners of EL MALECON right across from the Theatre

I LOVE Spanish food! AWESOME! Do you think your Dad's cousin's place would be really crowded on a "show night" at the theatre? Maybe we'll catch dinner before the concert!

Do we get a "special" if we drop your name?

Hey, I just may need to take you to dinner with us before the concert. You know my Spanish is terrible and I may need you to translate the menu.

I wasn't referring to the neighborhood.. I was talking about the exterior of the building which is in a state of disrepair.
