| HELP!!! Contrend ADSL and Sonicwall pro 230 PPPoE Hi, snowhntr here. I am network admin in a one horse town attempting to perform miricles. Since the cable modem we had in here kept falling flat on it's face ( little to no bandwidth) every day, I kept hammering the ISP for a solution. They (Orwell Telephone, now Fairpoint communications) suggested DSL, a service that was just comming in to there office. Well, I said "lets give it a try, can't be any worse than your cable." Well, they configgured a Comtrend DSL modem for a residential use and plugged it in. I connected my Sonicwall 230 and changed the settings because, of course, our static IP changed with the new DSL modem. It connected but some sites hung, and other stuff just didin't work at all. After digging around the DSL modem config, I found that it was doind NAT and PPPoE. AHH! I said, there is the problem, 2 NATS dont play nice together. So I put the ADSL modem into bridge mode, turning off routing and NAT and let my SonicWall do the PPPoE and NAT. IT solved my problem. All the sites that would not work, now work and everything is wonderfull. Until... over the weekend the connection dropped. And keeps dropping! I thought it was because of inactivity in the middle of the night, but now it does it in the middle of the business day and I have to change mess around with the firewall trying to get it to connect again.
My questions are: what makes this PPPoE connection drop, and is there anything I can do to keep this up? Is there some file I can write to keep this thing alive? |
