 | SoS, SoS, Window 2000 Professional totally messed up! I suspected the box has malware, and advapi32.dll seems to be the culprit, made a copy of the whole registry file, and just too BOLD to mess up with the references to advapi32.dll, and renamed the file to advapi32.bad then, the system won't boot, safe or safe w/ network etc. CD ROM drive is bad, copy emergy CD to a flash drive, checked CMOS for boot order (marked removable disk as #1), however, failed to boot, again and again.
Stupid, stupid mistake, how to resolve it? Thanks a million. |

Or you can put the drive into another system. -- Give a man a fish and he eats for a day, teach a man to fish and he will feed himself for a lifetime |

| reply to win2kMessedUp That file, advapi32.dll is a MS Windows system file; »www.processlibrary.com/directory···dvapi32/
Have you tried pressing F8 for the MS Windows boot menu, and trying 'Last Known working configuration'?
Otherwise, use BartPE (mentioned by Zaber ) to boot the system and rename the file back to advapi32.dll . |

 | reply to win2kMessedUp Hi all, (just came back from meetings)
Thank you. So, I've downloaded pebuilder3110a.exe (self-install vs. zip), but the doc mentions to install it, I thought I need a ready utility, am I missing something here?
On trying last good run etc. I've tried them all... Also, as I mentioned I copy the XP emergy CD to flash stick, and the boot order is removable disk, why the box did not pick that up?
I'm going to try the pebuilder3110a.exe in a minute ,,, |

on a related but separated note, why would Microsoft make system files avaiable to users, why not lock them up??? (making them invisible, not hidden. I'm mad |

Don't blame MS for your dumb mistake. Use the right tools next time to fix your issue vs. just deleting files. |

"CD ROM drive is bad," Then you need a different CDROM drive to temporarily use with that machine. -- Ha ha haaaaaaa....ever get the feeling you've been cheated?
