| [Need Info] Windows Server 2003 Image Software
I am familiar with Acronis TI for workstations, but not for the file server. I understand that the TI for workstations will not work on a file server and the Acronis file server software is $999 (or so I think). I called Acronis sales and only got a voice mailbox.
I want an image copy of the file server before I install SP 2 for Windows 2003 Server. So I am looking for some suggestions less expense than the Acronis product.
Help! And thank you. |

| You can use the bootable restore CD from any home or workstation version of TI to image Windows Server 2003. The only thing you cannot do is image from inside the OS. -- Some people see the glass as half full. Others see it as half empty. Jack Bauer sees the glass as a deadly weapon. |

| reply to Traxless traxless,
I hear ya. $999 seems like a lot of money. We just upgraded to a new server for our business. Our IT guy suggested Acronis True Image Enterprise with maintenance agreement and Enterprise Universal Restore with maintenance agreement. Total software cost $1,557.60. I about had a cow.
He suggested we do a nightly scheduled backup to a NAS device, such as the following:
We bought two of the 500GB device, and rotate once a week and take the one not being used off-site for further protection.
Well, I have to say I was reluctant at first but now am extremely impressed. A high end tape device with enterprise class backup software with tapes would have probably cost about the same.
I like the idea of having a complete image of both the OS drives and the data raid drives. The backup speed to the NAS drive is fast. Should disaster strike, I can use the True Image recovery CD and be back up and running within a couple of hours if parts are available. Or within a day with Universal Restore if I had to buy all new hardware.
I am now a true believer. When I think about the years of data and the human cost to recover it all, it would exceed the software and storage device costs by a factor of at least a 100 if not much more.
I dont know if this has helped you, but this solution has worked well for us. |

| reply to Traxless Acronis Server is different than Acronis Enterprise - I believe Server is not as expensive - $600 or so. That may better fit your needs.
Also, if you have several machines you want to back up, you may want to look into their Acronis Agent/snap deploy - may be cheaper. -- Opera 9.23(Build 8808); Windows XP Pro SP2;Athlon 64 X2 4600+; 2.5GB PC3200 DDR; 1M/128k DSL; NOD32(Version 2.5.25); Outpost Pro 3;Proxomitron 4.5j Grypen 5/23/07(Opera mod),GPG ID:0x0A1C6EE3 |
