Hmmm any technological advance is useful. Go to the news item below this one and you will see people complaining they'd like 100Mbps pipes. Let the .edu's have the Gbps pipes because inevitably it will set a precedent that it can be done.

Internet and Internet2 are two different things but the idea remains intact:

.edu's get my support on this.
