| Are Cable VOIP Operators really a threat?
I ask because I have Vonage and Cox VOIP. With vonage I pay under $20/mo for 500 minutes (that's all I need) and every feature I could imagine.
With Cox VOIP, it's about $18/mo for just a dial tone and no features and no calling plan/minutes. It would be about another $15/mo for the features and I'd still be paying $.07/min for local calls. The only reason I have the cox line is because it was a free offer for 6 months.
Finally, I also have a fax line through Vonage for a few bucks more per month, cox wanted another small fortune for a second line.
I don't see how it's competition. -- [[Your signature here]] |

| Exactly - the cable companies want to have their cake and eat it. At the moment they are pricing their product just slightly below that of traditional telcos so that they get customers but also make as much money as possible. I don't see them becoming a major threat to the independent VOIP providers unless they start cutting their costs significantly. At that point, who cares - just go with the cable company if they are as cheap as the independent. |
