said by kdcool :It is true that 20/20 is available but only in certain areas ie: MA, etc..it will be rolling out in other areas soon! Why would they release 15/15 in the non-20/20 areas, only to upgrade them later? It doesn't make sense, really. And if this is really going to happen, will 20/20 be the same price as what we're currently paying for 15/15? -- Hello...is there anybody in there? |

This has been smoke and mirrors since June 2006 - so the next person that posts on here that it's coming "soon" - is a complete fool.
HAH! Take that!
But then again, figuring it took them a year just to roll-out a program guide, I'd say the VZ shed is full of rounded shovels. -- "ONE team - ONE city - ONE dream!!" |

FYI
As an authorized agent for VZ, I can assist anyone who is looking to upgrade to FiOS provided that your neighborhood and/or street is "active" and ready to recieve the FiOS services. (I would have to verify your street info 1st)
The promotion for the free HDTV is ending soon! There are also rebate check(s) for referring others who are interested in FiOS too.

It would NOT get a DHCP ip from my main router no matter what so I ended up putting on a static IP.

| reply to danclan said by danclan :in my world Sveasoft does what I need and does it good. there have been versions with bugs just like dd-wrt has them too. I used their "stable v23 sp4 ??" and their newer one v24,(version numbers are by memory) I liked the daemon for game consoles, but *both* versions would lock up and had dhcp client issues. I like Sveasoft 1.21 and 1.22 and if it works why fool with it. the dhcp daemon bug was fixed in ddwwrt v23 sp1 and later. V24 RC1+ its definitely fixed as well... OK will give it a try on my son's bedrooms, they each have a router, I like the KAI daemon for their console connectivity, I donated 30.00 to brainslayer 2 months ago.
for my edge router I still prefer Sveasoft, right now ver 1.26 seems as good and stable as 1.22, 1.31 the one released to the public for free seems to hang up overnight and loose it's DHCP and does not renew just like the problems I was having with dd-wrt v23 sp2 as I recall, so I rolled 1.31 back to 1.26 and works just like it should.
Tomorrow I'm getting FIOS installed , and will try out the Actiontec and see how I feel about it, OTHERWISE I will buy a DIR-655 and put it there to handle firewall(I like the 4 giga ports it complements the rest of my network) and leave the Actiontec with the firewall OFF but running , next month when I get FIOS TV I will need it for the IPG and VOD.
I won a bid on a spare Actiontec and will probably donate it to James at Sveasoft to see IF he wants to consider writing code for it. I'm also ordering the open software fron Jungo in Israel (what a gimmick that company has making you send them a certified check to Isreal so they can send you back a CD haven't they heard of credit cards and HTTPS servers to collect that money??. it's probably to keep people from requesting the code under the open software licensing agreement)
If James does not do it, I still intend fooling with it, to increase the radio output and to permanently remove that open port.
keeps me busy that and grindind mirrors for telescopes my 2 hobbies |

you don't have to BUT most cheap wrt54g and work alikes are NOT fast enough to sustain 20, you need something new like what Verizon gives or go with the DLINK dir-655 it's rated the fastest router for the home right now
thats bunk even gen1 wrt54g and wrt54gs can easily handle 20mb connections and 30mbps connections. this has been discussed and tested so often that i grow old just responding to this....
i run a gen4 54gs cause my gen1 wireless died. with dd-wrt v23 base release with no issues and have for 2 years with my 30mbps and PPPoE.
Its the clock speed that matter most for those running over PPPoE. Those who are buying the newer routers around 100$ will have no issues running 30+ and virtually all linksys 54 models or later will easily sustain and exceed 30mbps. And users on DHCP should have an even easier time.
So find a router you like and enjoy...search the net for routers with clocks speeds nearing 300MHz or better for real speed proof routing. |

Sveasoft's releases are garbage /snip/ The only DD-WRT+WRT54G problem that I know of was with the PPPoE implementation in v23 SP2 (now obsolete) and the higher speed tiers. It's since been fixed with the v24 release candidates. Well you have your opinions and experiences and I have mine.

anyway we all need to use what we find useful and I'm in no way here to sell *either* one as I'm thinking of moving to the DIR-655 wich no one makes aftermarket code for because of the propitary code in it, but since it has all I want , that will do it for me. |

| reply to Raven313 In Maryland, it will be 15/15. Still.....*ouch*! It's a *BLAST!*-killer (BLAST! is Comcast's uber-HSI package above even the 8000/768 Performance Plus with PowerBoost), considering it's symmetrical (which BLAST! isn't) and that it is only two-thirds the price of BLAST! (which is $99 monthly, where offered), not to mention it will be available in far more locations than BLAST! (which is *not* avilable in either Prince Goerge's or Montgomery Counties at all). |

| reply to lithiumfox after testing on a WRT54GSv4 with DD-WRT v24 RC4. PPPoE is not fixed. It sill requires over clocking to achieve full 30mbps or more.
If you have a newer router that has a higher clock speed then you may not see any impact.
I had to over clock to 233mhz to get to 28.7 mbps on my v4 linksys.
The 24 RC4 was very clean to install and no issues going back to v23 base. I did notice that importing a v23 backup disabled many features so i did factory reset and manually enabled everything before creating a v24 backup.
I am bummed though as v23 still has bad lan dhcp daemon
If I was not PPPoE ...why they haven't just eliminated that altogether i dont know...i could move to v24 full time and be very very happy....so I may look to finally upgrade my v4 to something with more clock speed and or RAM.
I do notice a hit now with running HD VOD streaming across the lan. So if anyone has some recommendations that would be great.... |
