| reply to krsnj The other 20/20 tracerts are better (about 1/2 the latency) but I'm not sure if it's enough of a difference to cause the upload to be ~1/2 of what it should be.
If you want, I can pop over on the weekend since you're only a town away. I can bring my notebook and see what I get, even though the tech's notebook showed faster speeds.
What Anti Virus or spyware software do you have installed? Maybe some software is slowing down the upload? -- Tweaked your connection? | Mail Parse | Speed Converter |

| reply to BLUNTED 1 Sorry if this has already been answered, but those of you who have the 20/20: Ae you paying for a premium service or is that the base standard that is priced (after the first months of discounted service ) at $49.95/month?
I have the "standard" 20/5. It is discounted for first 8 months (double play bundle) and then wil be $ 49.95.
I generally test at about 20.4 or 20.7 down and at about 4.5 up.
20/20 was available but at a significantly higher cost.
Thanks in advance for taking the time to answer me. |

3 edits | The 20/20 when bundled with the TV package was $64.95 for 2 years.
When compared to my CV bill plus phone, the new service, Phone/TV/Internet is saving me $60 per month, plus I get 2 DVRs which I never had before, and the 4X faster Upload speed (if I can get it to work).
But price was not the deciding factor. I often send 1-4,000 photos to my printing lab in Dallas. Upload speed is what I'm looking for and the 20/20 seemed to fit the bill if I can get it working. |

Verizon: We have finished your connection speed test. Your download speed is: 18.416 Mbps Your upload speed is: 6.782 Mbps Your current Verizon FiOS Internet Speed package is up to 20/20
Congratulations! This test result indicates your service is operating normally.

Speedtest.net
OK, I like that, but no other site is giving me that. Why??
But speakeasy.net/speedtest fron NYC a few minutes later gives: Last Result: Download Speed: 20645 kbps (2580.6 KB/sec transfer rate) Upload Speed: 12741 kbps (1592.6 KB/sec transfer rate)

So I'm at a loss here what is going on. One site says I have great service, two others say I have 1/3 to 1/2 the upload speed I should have.
TIA for suggestions.

Is the 20/20 full duplex?
In otherwords, can you upload at 20 while downloading at 20? All speed testers I have seen only test download then upload, but not both at the same time.
Thanks. |

| reply to krsnj I had the same issues and realized after a week of experimenting that most test servers can't handle the bandwidth to give a proper reading!
From uploading to various servers and downloading I was able to confirm that my 20/20 is working fine.
There is only one test site that seems to have the ability to test true high bandwidth ... try the test at the following link and see what you get:

| I don't have such good luck with Speedtest.net, it changes all the time which makes me think their servers are maxed out. Think about the amount of bandwidth we are throwing around at such sites!
The 20/20 connection really is about giving us the ability to multitask powerful web applications without bottlenecks. If a server only will give us say 5Mbps, that means we have 15 available to still do other things without bottlenecking.
The average website server usually has a 100 Mbps connection to begin with. If that server is serving a bunch of people it is unlikely that we will get a full 20 Mbps. Some servers also use a throttle feature to help fight off DDoS attacks, Apache has this option. Cheaper servers may even have a 10Mbps connection, making it impossible for it to ever serve more than 10, even if you have a 20 package.
I wouldn't place so much faith in the speed test sites. Like I said, it took me about a week to realize all of this and think that if everyone takes the time to experiment they will see they are indeed provisioned correctly. That said, the Visualware site seems to be FiOS ready as it always gives me good results. »msiad.visualware.com/myspeed/db/···=7645375
When you hit a good server that has plenty of bandwidth, you will be blown away at the speed! I downloaded a high resolution video from the ISS, about 210 megs, in less than 1 minute! Wait until you upload, wow, that is where you will really appreciate the power of FiOS but remember that the servers you are visiting must have the power to match what we have and many of sites do not! We are way ahead of the pack!
In conclusion, if you do not upload many big files or hosting some sort of app the 20/20 is really not needed and you will be fine with 20/5 which is still very fast in comparison to the competition. Save the extra $15 or apply it to getting a DVR or MediaManager, given you have FiOS Television. I went for the 20/20 since I work on remote servers often, restoring a server with a 20 uplink is without question, awesome! |
