 | Alternatives to Skype? Do any of you guys know any cheaper alternatives to Skype? The service quality is pretty good but international calls are still eating up my money quickly. I primarily make calls from my PC to international land lines. |

 | reply to spatula_city If you subscribe to Skype Pro ($3 a month) you can get a Skype To Go number that will cut that cost on International calls down considerably. It's basically a ring-back service. |

»voice.yahoo.com/
Their rates are cheaper than Skype across the board. |

MagicJack is way better than Skype MagicJack is a much better alternative to Skype for an initial cost of $39.00 which covers the purchase of the USB device and first year of service, after that an additional year is $20.00. Unlimited calling in US and voicemail and inbound number included.
I tried out Skype and they were terrible. I hesitantly tried out MagicJack and while they are still in a BETA phase, they beat Shype hands down. |

Re: Alternatives to Skype? Yahoo Voice is much cheaper. However I think it cost me more in the long run as I don't do a lot of calling. I am not sure but I think it dumps your credits you have paid for after a certain time? Maybe 3 months? Skype doesn't seem to do that.
So when I checked my Yahoo account my balance had been wiped, I guess as I had not used it in awhile. |

 | reply to spatula_city try gizmo project, www.gizmoproject.com they're a SIP-based system much like skype, using it is free and you can buy call credit.
Alternatively you could use really any VoIP provider and a computer softphone, if you're willing to jump thru some hoops to set it up. use a softphone like x-lite or SJphone, and a provider like broadvoice.com or viatalk.com might work well... |
