 | reply to Konaguy Anyone have any updated info on when the new speed tiers will be available on other parts of the Big Island? I called today and they put me on a "request" list, but they have no idea when it will be available for me. |

The best Java speed test bandwidth I have attained to any mainland speed test site is just under 7 mbps down, 0.8 mbps up. Hawaiian Telcom's speed test just reported 10.3 mbps down, 1 mbps up.
So if you frequently have more than one simultaneous download in progress, the 11 mbps service might be worthwhile. But if single downloads are more common, then the 7 mbps service might be sufficient.
The service has been good until the past few days when I have experienced periods during which their POP server was down and when Internet bandwidth was lousy (a Java speed test to San Francisco just reported a whopping 1.4 mbps down :-( I don't know why Internet bandwidth is so lousy today. |

| I'm curious which speedtest site in SFO was giving such lousy results. Lately I've have had problems with Megapath.net.
I have a 7Mbps DSL service over the legacy ATM network. I can normally achieve 4-5Mbps to the west coast and 6Mbps to Honolulu. But for whatever reason the Megapath site is giving me lousy results. Some days I can only get 1.5Mbps. |
