I got that letter last week...

and glad I read it too. 2 minutes later, I called the robot and "supposedly" I am out.

But how many folks will even notice this, let alone toss it and its "6pt type" letter to the trash?

I never got it, or if I did, I don't remember seeing it and just tossed it. My fault.

Thanks to dslreports.com, I have a second chance.

Your're lucky....i wish the death star did this. You may want to find out just how long your "opt out" function runs for though, Some companies are using a sunset provision allowing them to sell info after a designated amount of time. Anything for a buck!

I never got the letter or maybe I tossed it because I pay on-line. But this is simply amazing to me that they can sell "proprietary" information. Doesn't that contradict the term proprietary ?? The term CUSTOMER proprietary information....it belongs to the customer..you talk about an invasion of privacy. I'm just thankful for the post and immediately opted out of such BS.

I find it amazing that the law requires customers to take an action if they don't want the info sold. It should be the other way around, in a perfect world. But selling this info to third parties would be too annoying for Verizon if they had to get permission from every customer to do so. So, why not just make it so the customer has to take action to protect their privacy and the problem is solved.

Scary, isn't it?

How Fast Can "YOU SAY BREACH OF CONTRACT"???

Sounds like a good time for Verizon Wireless to ABSOLVE any current customers of any Contractual obligations you might supposedly have to them.

I PORT MY NUMBER, I CANCEL MY SERVICE, F-U VERIZON WIRELESS.

IF you Sell MY Private Information to make YOURSELF MONEY, never expect an Early Termination Fee!!!

AT&T has been vacated of contractual obligations with it's customers over simple price increases, or 'required technology upgrades', i.e...ANALOG/TDMA/GSM.....

Nuff Said, You Lousy Sons of Bitches!!

OOOH, an OPT OUT call is REQUIRED, if you do nothing, bend over and live with it.

How much time does the OPT OUT call buy us, 30 days, 60 days, certainly not more than 90 days???

This amounts to F'ing Treason Against Your Own Customers, You F'ing Bastards.

Re: I got that letter last week...

Note though that Verizon doesn't give out your name or phone number, and without the ability to identify you, it's only statistics. Further, for most people, lion's share of their calls are to other people rather than to businesses, so I'm wondering, who might be even interested to purchase this data, and for what use... I'm sure Verizon will get much more negative publicity from this initiative than it will earn by selling this data.
