Same here. It seems the only ones saying HD Lite are the ones who don't have the service. They look great. You can't prove they're HD-Lite.
And I can't prove they're not.

Nobody has yet been able to "break the stream" to find out what exactly the resolution and bitrates are. Certainly, it's only a matter of time before there is proof one way or the other. The semi-official position is that the networks are 1920x1080 and locals are 1440x1080. Based on side-by-side comparisons of a cable provider and D* - they look the same.

As for "stretch-o-vision" - that's not DirecTV's fault. They're a re-broadcaster - passing on the content as it is provided to them.
