Re: New speeds for internet coming!

That test server from mountaincable gives you a false readout. I get the same connection speed when I test through there, give one of the tests here a try to see your actual internet speed.

Its not a false readout, its just uncapped. Same with email, mountains ftp, etc.

Well yeah I understand that, but unless you do all your internet through mountaincable's server, those stats are pointless. To me its like comparing the transfer rate of your network card over a LAN over what you do online. 10/2 is most definately not what mountaincable offers for actual speed. Unless you buy the business package of 10/1 with unlimited bandwidth at 599.99/mo. And really, only actual businesses would do that.

Should the mountain news server be uncapped too? I seem to still only be able to pull 700kb/s-ish from it.

The news server is not run by them like Cogeco's(inhouse). Mountain's is run by usenetserver.com
6concurrent connections, no caps, speed is not capped(you're getting around max)and i believe around 40days retention.

Just don't tell everyone about it. If too many people start using it.. lol

It should count as within network though, right? I'm downloading a blu-ray disc and am sure hoping they count it as within network :P

I know that, but since it is one of their services is it "counted" as in network traffic? ;) As I said before downloading a blu-ray disc....aka 26GB...of which in a day and a half have actually gotten 20GB of...don't want them to get mad at me...

Net

@mountaincable.net

Are you crazy?

They're going to cut the service off altogether if you abuse the network like that. Stop it!

their not going to cut you off for downloading 26gb. I've done more than that just grabbing demos and shit off usenet, once, I downloaded an entire boxset of 50gb in one batch. Not so much as a peep from mountaincable. I try not to do it too often though. If you're starting to pull like 400gb of data a month your going to stick out like a sore thumb.

But out of interest, why bother downloading a blu-ray? Just get an HDrip. 9gb is much more manageable.
