iowaboy : at least you got your upstream power level below 55. I was having level at 60 during the day and at night it would run 58.5. after complaining and the techs not showing up for 2 appointments one tech got it down the 57 constant and said that it was within specs. At least I can connect now. When I called in I told the tech that the whole area is above 55 and running 59-60. Guess I will have to have a talk with their boss. He lives 2 blocks from me. I know that if he checks his levels and they are out of whack someone will be down real quick and get the lines fixed.

wth : I've had the problem of the upstream power level getting to high (55) Once it gets above there, the modem looses sinc, then makes several attempts to resinc, which it usually does. It's doing this behind 2 ea 2-way splitters. Today I rewired it so the modem is on 1 ea 2-way splitter (the preferred method.) Levels are now snr37, downstream -3, and upstream 52. Does 52 seem high behind one 2-way splitter? Modem is a motorola 5100

jomama : Last I knew the data streams in and out of the cable modem termination system are routed to CR, but the individual nodes are still connected to transmitters in Iowa City fed the video lineup which mostly is generated in CR ( it's broken back out to RF, combined with the local access channels coming to the southgate facility via an RF trunk line from downtown, (UITV is coming in via fiber) as well as the RF carriers for data coming from each CMTS blade which were structured to share up to 6 return paths per forward transmitter, individually combined for each fiber transmitter that feeds a group of nodes.
So while I'm not saying it's impossible for all that to be put on additional fiber and the associated hardware crammed into an already over crowded facility on Boysun, I would be surprised if Mediacom would spend the money.
