Verizon Fios currently has the following national HD channels (as of Oct. 15, 2007):
National (15 channels): TNT, ESPN, ESPN2, NFL, HDNet, HDNet Movies, UniversalHD, Discovery HD Theater, Wealth, Nat Geographic, MHD, Food, HGTV, A&E, Lifetime Movie Network.
Premium channels (5): HBO, Cinemax, Showtime, TMC, Starz.
Side note: Verizon now has a total of 15 national HD channels that are available at no extra charge beyond the HD STB/DVR or with a cable card and long has had the primary channel for all 5 of the premium movie nets. Until very recently, this was ahead of D* and most cable systems, so keep this in mind before people start put up more Fios bashing posts.
The list below is of the national HD channels that are now available which are not on Fios. The list leaves out the RSNs and the west coast feeds of the premium movie channels. If there is an active national HD channel not on this list, please post it.

CNBC HD [all upconverted SD video combined with HD graphics on the 16x9 screen]

There are a number of other channels listed on the DirecTV HD list as starting up in the fall and winter but most don’t have firm start-up dates so they could be months away from starting up. Higher profile HD channels on the upcoming list: ABC Family, Biography, Disney Channel, MTV, Nickelodeon, HBO2, HBO Family, HBO Signature. Until these exist, Fios can’t add them so don't include them in the votes.
No idea which of these, if any, Verizon is planning to add in the near future, but if Verizon does monitor this forum, they might pay attention to the vote totals [or not]. So how about the 5 channels you most want to see in no particular order? I’m going to add up the total votes and update the 1st post from time to time. You can vote for the 15 Voom channels but those are just not going to happen on Fios anytime soon.

I accepted votes for up to 6 entries, I rejected 2 posts who listed more than 6 without prioritizing them. For those who asked for all 4 Discovery channels who also listed 3 or more other channels, I assigned a 1/2 point to each of the four. If the reports that Verizon is adding the 4 Discovery channels at the end of the month are correct, we will get them soon. Maybe a new vote thread in November. I'll update the total if more entries are submitted.

Maybe FX for when The Shield starts, but most of list looks like a group of also rans and stretch-o-vision wonders to me.
If we're lobbying for HD channel changes, they can go ahead and take A&E HD, LMN HD and Wealth HD away now. |

USA is often the top rated cable channel. USA, FX and Sci-Fi all have high rated (for cable) scripted series shot in HD that many of us want to see. Add CNN-HD for some news coverage in HD. Add Discovery-HD because it is a top 10 cable channel and I want to see Mythbusters in HD! However, not sure if Discovery will allow Verizon to pick 1 of their 4 new channels or whether Verizon is obligated to carry all 4 or none. |
