I was BYOD (with my own Sipura 2000) then changed to using their Sipura 2002.
It always worked with both, dating back about 3+ yrs. now. |

I've actually been wondering if it would present a problem... Honestly, most calls we make are to cell phones / businesses. The few landlines we call should be able to adjust adequately.

I actually never knew that VP didn't have outbound CID name because my ported numbers still show my name but my friends port just completed from Cinci Bell to VP but no name shows now when it did before so I called VP and was told they don't have the outbound "name" CID yet but it has been in beta and should be finished soon.

Nobody (providers) trusts the names that get sent, so any CNAME info that come from the sending providers are almost always bit-bucketed. Everybody keeps their own CNAME database and when calls come in, the receiving provider then takes the number and looks it up in their own CNAM database, and displays the name associated with that number. How often they refresh their database with the central cnam db is up to them.
Large ILEC's (verizon, etc..) do it sometimes twice a day...where smaller CLECS/Resellers(vitelity) may only do it once a week or once a month...
It's unfortunate that it works this way, and you can blame SBC for it. They originally wanted to charge every other provider to preserve cid name info. It backfired when nobody paid, and SBC simply threw out all incoming cid names from other providers. They admitted later, in retrospect, that instead of leaning on the other providers, they should have charged their own customers a 'cid name insertion fee' as a value add, and convince other providers to do the same. Eliminating every provider from keeping their own database. |

As is swintec's experience, numbers ported over from a landline that already had a name attached do show the name for outbound caller ID. I ported over from Verizon/MCI and my name shows up. |

On my Verizon line that I ported over to Voicepulse, my name seems to still show up on others Caller ID's....In fact, if I call my other Voicepulse line, there is a name on the caller ID along with the number.

For your friends and relatives with speed dial or "phone book" on their landline cordless phones, and for all with cellphones, if they program your number into their phones, your name should show up on the Caller ID when you call.
From my experience, not transmitting my name has not been a problem; folks seem to learn quickly to recognize my number without the Caller ID Name. |
