I'm thrilled this got passed. That being said, I don't like to use the word "permanent" or "never". That's a sort of finality that I don't like to think about. There are always times that things need to be reviewed. Everything. Keeping an open mind and changing something if it needs changing is an important overal concept.

Passed the House, but not the Senate. Needs to get through both (and past Bush) before this means anything. Given the margin in the House, though, one would hope the Senate would act...

I don't agree. But thats ok. Half because I actually don't agree, and half because I don't think anything deserves to be "permanent". Too much can change to single out any specific thing in life.

No matter how 'permanent' they make it, it's always subject to review. Even our Constitutional rights, e.g., to free speech and to bear arms, could be taken away by another amendment to the Constitution. 'Permanent' laws can always be reviewed and changed, there's just no pre-set time for the arguing to begin.
