JB's crap connection has got me seriously considering the switch to DSL (which I know some folks in the Radford/C-burg area cannot get, unfortunately). I would have done DSL in the first place, but it wasn't avail. in '05 when I moved here .. had it before and it was lovely. I am not sure how much Verizon will charge, but it'll be worth the price that I am paying in frustration right now. How in the HELL did a company take over all the infrastructure and networks that seemed to be well maintained by Suddenlink (formerly Charter) and then f* things up so bady? I agree with the general sentiment here - this company is providing terrible connectivity while still getting high fees. I'm not sure why we, the Internet users in this NRV area, can't just get together, drive to "corporate HQ" in Rustburg, VA (!!!) and tell the execs to step-up.

Though I went to school at Tech, I was living in DC for a few years before I came back to Christiansburg. It's like stepping back in time technology-wise. I cannot believe I cannot even get DSL in my neighborhood. There is no solid choice in the area for high speed internet. Comcast, Intelos, Verizon, they all service the other side of C'burg, but not my side. I cannot believe that a town that is supposed to be in "Virginia's Technology Corridor" can't even get a 3G network on their cell phone...not that it would solve the internet problem. I never ever thought in my life I would be wishing for Comcast to take over the area so I can get some decent connectivity. It drives me nuts that I feel like I am living in the mid 90s when it comes to the internet around here...

I have had Jet for about 4 months now in Lynchburg and I honestly say I have NEVER had so many problems with any company I have ever dealt with. The first two months I had it I had 7 techs come to try and fix my connection that disconnected every 5 mins. Their "fixes" consisted of power cycling the modem and telling me it was fixed. Finally on the 7th technician I told him I wanted my apartment to have a new line run to it. Once he did this it worked fine for about 2 weeks.

After 2 weeks my speeds in the evening dropped to literally 5 megabits per second. Half of the speed tests I tried to run would time it. It has been 2 months since then and they still haven't done anything to fix it despite numerous e-mails and calls. I basically have crappy internet all day and then no internet at night.

I ordered Verizon DSL last week and come yesterday when it was supposed to be turn on, I was informed my line was not "profiled" correctly for DSL and now a tech has to come out to my apartment. I can't believe how much of a struggle it is to get a decent connection in 2007. I had better service than this with dialup in 1995.

I too am considering switching over to DSL - every night when I get home I find that my connection has disconnected - resetting the modem always gets me back online for at least a little while, but then it goes away again. Speeds have gone from a constant 3mb down/384kbps up that I got with Suddenlink to barely 1mb down & 150kbps up - if I'm lucky - how the heck did they screw up the infrastructure so bad?

It worked fine at the start - once I had my modem reprovisioned I got 5mb down & 1mb up - but it's steadily gotten worse since then. Last time I called them they simply told me "we're aware of the speed issue in Christiansburg and are working on it" - bull. That was 3 weeks ago, and it's gotten steadily worse since then.
