A friend of mine had ADSL in an apartment with such wiring and back then, getting 800kbps out of her 1.5Mbps profile was only possible on lucky days.<br><br>Having unnecessarily long cables is obviously never going to do any good but for the final 6', pretty much any cable will do. From the phone installations I have seen for as long as I remember, I would be most concerned with the building's wiring.]]></description>

<description><![CDATA[<A HREF="/useremail/u/0"><b>anon</b></A> : Keep in mind that the wiring within your house/apartment to Bell's line entry-point/demark may be over 100' long and from there to the remote/CO may be well over 1000' more. An extra 6' will usually make very little difference.<br><br>You should be more concerned about your in-house wiring quality (often a mess) and Bell's line quality than the final 6' stretch. The ideal setup is to split and filter your line after the demark (if you can) so your modem will not be seeing any of the junk that may be present on the rest of your phone wiring.]]></description>
