What of those users who generate their own recordings of original songs, and wish to share them via usenet? And those who wish to have access to such content?
I guess I never realized the MP3 file format was solely the domain of music recorded by those affiliated with the RIAA. | |

MP3 DOESNT mean copyrighted music...As some have already said, you can record yourself and put it on usenet with a MP3 file format. Usenet is giving an open description, theres no way in hell that sentence could be used against them. Anyways, those cry-babies who decide to post anonymous because they are too scared to voice their opinion on their regular accounts aren't probably computer literate enough to understand. They just see "People sharing MP3" and their close-mindedness just screams "copyright".

Just because it's an MP3 file doesn't mean that it contains copyrighted music. And since their advertisement doesn't openly state "Download copyrighted music/movies/software etc.", it will be very difficult for the RIAA to prove that they are aiding, abetting and encouraging piracy. Of course, we all know that people don't sign up for Usenet to download MP3s of Neyland85's dog farting, there are far more interesting things to download off Usenet, but good luck to RIAA with proving it. And even if they do succeed in shutting down some US-based news servers, more will pop up overseas outside of their reach (I guess it's time for The Pirate Bay staff to start considering setting up their news server).
