[Webpages\Storage] Comcast's Free Web Space is down in Western W

It's now been down for 48 hours. The techs on telephone support line can't service this problem so I have to call in by text chat. Gee, I wonder why that is? They claim it is an FTP problem as the space is on an "FTP server", and techs are working on it. But I can FTP up/download just fine. The damm thing just wont serve up images based on HTML commands.

I asked them what the problem REALLY is. That said they don't know.
I asked how long it will take to fix. They said they don't know. And no estimate available.
I asked if they could move my space to another server. They said NO.
I told them that I REALLY need this fixed ASAP and if it is not back up soon I am going with another service. They said they don't care.

I have just about had my fill of this monopoly's BS practices and arrogant customer relations. First they throttle my bandwidth and now this.

Is anyone else having similar problems with their free web space at Comcast?

Re: [Webpages\Storage] Comcast's Free Web Space is down in Weste

My personal web space is not working at all, neither do I have FTP access to it.

Hopefully this has something to do with the promised increase in storage space and will be solved before too much longer. I got this on the 11th:

"A brief maintenance period of less than one hour will take place over the next week. During this short period you will be unable to make updates to your Web page. However, the Web page will remain available to any visitors as it normally would."

My connection is very slow right now and I noticed that I also drew a new IP address today.

Down in OR as well. First it was only my primary account, now it is all PWP's. Here's a transcript of today's chat session:

My PWP at »home.comcast.net~ecapmiill has been disabled and returns only a .gif saying "temporarily unavailable". Secondary account pages are OK. It's been down for over 24 hours now. What the heck's going on?

Hello jim_, Thank you for contacting Comcast Live Chat Support. My name is Richard. Please give me one moment to review your information.

I will be happy to assist you.
Richard(Wed Oct 17 2007 14:05:00 GMT-0700 (Pacific Daylight Time))>
We're in the process making upgrades to our Personal Web Page service, Jim. While we make the upgrade some personal web pages will not be available.
jim_(Wed Oct 17 2007 11:05:59 GMT-0700 (Pacific Daylight Time))>
But for over 24 hours? That's not how long the info posted said it would be. It was supposed to be less than 2 hours.
Richard(Wed Oct 17 2007 14:07:13 GMT-0700 (Pacific Daylight Time))>
Unfortunately parts of the upgrade are running longer than we expected.
jim_(Wed Oct 17 2007 11:07:34 GMT-0700 (Pacific Daylight Time))>
OK. But this is the second time this has happened in the last 2 weeks.
Richard(Wed Oct 17 2007 14:08:51 GMT-0700 (Pacific Daylight Time))>
The Personal Web Page service upgrade has required two service interruptions, Jim. We sincerely regret any inconvenience this has caused you.
jim_(Wed Oct 17 2007 11:10:11 GMT-0700 (Pacific Daylight Time))>
OK But I have this feeling that my site has been passed on by and forgotten about. I'll write again if this continues. Thanx and bye.

Images hosted on Comcast user web space not showing up when linking on
external message boards. Flaky performance. Sometimes they show up -
sometimes they don't.

I've been receiving emails for over a week regarding a short interruption in
service. How much longer will these upgrades be affecting my web space?
Bob(Thu Oct 18 2007 03:22:56 GMT-0700 (Pacific Daylight Time))>
until we figure out how to make a website that works.

This upgrade sucks but I am amped I will have a bunch of 1 gig spaces - one per email account.

Guess it doesn't "suck" after all

Lemme rephrase this... Their inability to do a smooth maintenance to upgrade our accounts in an evening resulting in flaky service for over a week while they troubleshoot and learn how to properly run their servers sucks.

Into the 4th day now with no access to my primary PWP. Secondary pages were down for a while but are now functioning.
I've did the chat thing each day even though I know I'll get the stock answer. Here's today's:

chat id : 5baf7f9c-e96b-45f6-b0ee-87697da4ea21
Problem : Well into the 4th day and STILL no resolution. Cannot FTP changes to primary PWP. Cannot view primary PWP. Secondary accounts are functional.

jim_ > Please do me a favor and find the manager in charge of the PWP upgrade and do serious violence upon his person. I'll feel better and so will you. Bye

I waited a few secs to see if he'd reply. He didn't. Hope he got a chuckle out of it anyway. It's not his fault it is fouled up but it is the fault of whoever is the overseer of the upgrade.

UPDATE
A few hours after that last chat session, I'm now able to FTP changes to the primary PWP and also able to view it. Seems a little sluggish but at least it's finally working again.

I'm still hosed, first it was just a sub account, now my primary is down too. I get intermittant ability to view my webpage but can't connect to the FTP server. I've got a couple of auctions up on eBay with pictures hosted on the comcast server, this has never been a problem before and according to the notice they sent out it shouldn't have been a problem. I'm paying a premium for my paltry 25mb, now comcast is not only charging for their service, their lack of service is making me loose money.

Anyone know when this will be fixed? I have been unable to view or FTP into my web site since they announced the upgrade/switch. I had already switched over to Comcast months ago so I am confused as to why this is such a fiasco.

I am in Massachusetts and my PWP has been down for six days now. Is there anyone in New England that has the use of their PWP again with the new features?

Yes, I am having serious problems with the new transition as my old web page is no longer accessible using the new web page editor. We are in the middle of a fund raising effort for a friend that has cancer and we can not even get to our page to edit it. I have had numerous conversations with no resolution from any of the tech help at any level. Just endless promises. We are in the process of moving our email accounts to Gmail and looking at other ISPs as well as Hosting Plans. This disaster has at least forced me to look beyond Comcast.

For those of you that don't know this, you can voice your opinions here at this Comcast forum about your feelings about the new upgrade, which in my personal opinion is a total mess!

Since the beginning of this week (10/22/07), I have been unable to FTP into my web for updating. It keeps rejecting my password, although I could log into my e-mail and personal account with the same password. I changed my password (just in case something else was going on), and still the same results. Why doesn't Comcast JUST put a message out saying that anyone on certain servers don't have access. This is irresponsible on the part of Comcast. Just because it is free does Comcast think it isn't important. I say, I am paying a lot of money for access and frankly I liked the e-mail service of the previous owners, plus you got answers from them.I agree with the comments, the upgrade really isn't going very smoothly nor does Comcast take their clients need to know into consideration. Are they finished yet! Can we access yet?

My site has been down since 10/19 and despite numerous calls to tech support, comcast won't supply a timeline for a fix.

But there is a workaround that might help some, courtesy of my web-expert girlfriend. The basic problem seems to be that the broken sites are considered to have "migrated" to the new pwp, but no files were moved over. But if your browser has a cookie named pwp_mig_status with value 0, comcast's server will fetch your pages from the old directory, and voila!

You can make such a cookie if you're using firefox, but from other browsers you can instead hit somebody else's non-migrated page. That will set the pwp_mig_status=0 cookie with a 15 min lifetime, and you can then view your page.

Right now home.comcast.net/~papadutch works for me, but of course could get migrated at some point. But a google search will turn up lots of candidate pages and you can try another, and use your browser's cookie manager to view the results.

Of course this is a crappy substitute for comcast fixing their stuff, but may be of some help

MY pwp is not viewable - in NJ. Have "new format" of the main page only and comcast is still updating. I'm able to edit in the "old format" and publish, but the site isn't viewable. Any temporary patches????
