Not a hyperbole in the sense of a populace being led to believe and trust a benevolent dictator will do what is necessary for their protection without having any oversight into the dealings, methods and practices of the protectors.

The point is that there seems to be an extremely powerful groups or groups of people and companies that are taking all sorts of our rights and slicing and dicing the constitution to suit their needs.

The only thing we have left to hope for is their word that is is in order to provide us with safety.

Seems our rights are suppressed in exchange for a distant mirage of safety. so therefore, in respect to a small group taking over the reigns of power promising protection of the masses from a undefined enemy, not that far off.

Still no gulags, though. Point taken. But in the sense of no oversight, we are rapidly approaching that stage.
