| reply to Turbocpe Re: [Cable TV] Des Moines - Headend issues & Mediacom's Response
Amazingly, 2 months after I have created this thread, the issues are still present.
I haven't watched TV much (never do - but even less lately), and I hadn't seen the issue for the past week or so. I thought maybe Mediacom was getting this resolved. Wrong.
Today, around 3PM those channels listed above started "tiling" off and on, audio was choppy of and on, then there was a brief few seconds where the channels went offline-black. As before, it effects about half of the channels on the analog expanded-basic. |

So Mediacom is indeed aware that this is a headend issue affecting analog (and digital) customers, and not just isolated to select customers or some false/inaccurate reports by customers.
And since I created this thread, I've gotten a lot of feedback from other Mediacom customers expressing the same issue with their analog service. A few have expressed the same with their digital service, but with the digital service, such issues reported here could be a local signal issue, or it could be related to this issue. I'm told that this issue does affect digital customers as well. |

| reply to Turbocpe I think this problem is due to the conversion to digitized signals at the Headend. As you may or may not know, there is the upcoming turnoff of all analog broadcast signals.
This has been converted to early in Des Moines. I have noticed that these lower channels are MUCH more sensitive to signal related issues.
Since this appears to be happening on the analog(TV only) i can assume they are downconverting the Digital signals to analog and then put them on the plant. This is most likely why you are seeing macro blocking on your analog TV set. |

It's all about reclaiming bandwidth for other purposes such as HD. |

| reply to Turbocpe Mediacom is not using Switched Digital at all right now. If you have a cable box, you are now watching all of the "Analog" content in digital.
What i was trying to say was that they may be taking these digital feeds and putting them into the analog space, which would explain why you would see tiling on an analog TV. |

My main point was that it's not related to the 2009 deadline. |

| reply to Turbocpe Well when they began sending out the digital versions of those analog channels, they also decided to use that digital broadcast to send to the analog services as well. Any problems they have with the Digital side can carry over to those analog channels.
Previously they were using an analog broadcast feed to send out these channels. I'm not saying that this is the reason, but that they have converted their entire delivery system for all of the 2-78 tier. |

| The tiling is not as concerning (in my opinion) as it is when lots/blocks of channels totally freeze and then usually go offair/black for minutes at a time. That's still an issue.
Today, for over 2 minutes, the following channels went offair/black:
17 23 24 26 28 29 30 31 33 35 36 40 42 63 71
I was watching one of the channels on the above list, when the video suddenly froze and the audio stopped. I then switched to another channel in the above list, and it was also frozen (video/audio). Then the channel went offair/black. I then was able to go through channels 2-78 and note that the above channels were all black/offair for over 2 minutes.
I can understand some tiling issues in this digital age, but I think it's ridiculous that Mediacom has frequent issues with blocks/lots of channels going offair/black for minutes and sometimes hours at a time. |

burner50 Pinlifter Premium,VIP join:2002-06-05 EN22wm | mediacom should have that fixed by now... Utterly unacceptable.
If it is happening at the master headend then it is more than likely affecting the majority of the state.
Completley unacceptable for a "lifeline" service |
