said by Chinabound :said by Bobcat :said by Chinabound :Back then, I believe NJTP would check the time on your card and possibly cite you for speeding. Nope, they never did that. I just spent an hour trying to find information about it, but I cannot. That's because they never did it.
In fact, it wasn't until the magnetic stripes were added to the tickets that they were able to stop people from flip-flopping two different cards in order to travel the full length of the Turnpike but pay the toll for going only 1 exit. I can describe how to do this if you want (doesn't work anymore). |

| Well, I'm not sure how anyone would get two cards other than telling them you lost the one you had, resulting in paying the full fare, which takes away any savings.
Just do me a small favor please. I have no idea how old you are, but if you have any relatives older than 70, ask them about it. |

| Example for a regular commute from the areas of exit 1 to 18: • 1. Enter at interchange 1, take ticket. • 2. Exit at 18, say you lost ticket, pay toll for trip from 1 to 18, which is what you would have paid anyway. • 3. On the way home, enter at 18, take ticket. • 4. Exit at 2, give ticket from the morning, pay toll from 1 to 2 even though you traveled from 18 to 2. At this point, you still have a ticket from entering at 18. • 5. Next day, enter at 1, take ticket. • 6. Exit at 16, give ticket from previous day, pay toll from 18 to 16 even though you traveled from 1 to 16. • 7. On the way home, enter at 18, take ticket. • 8. Exit at 2, give ticket from the morning, pay toll from 1 to 2 even though you traveled from 18 to 2. At this point, you still have a ticket from entering at 18. • 9. Repeat steps 5-8 forever.
Accurate timing information wasn't available until they added the magnetic stripes, because the old machines were not synchronized. So there was no way to prevent abuses like the above or to measure vehicles' speeds.
The other reason you can't give speeding tickets based on toll plaza timing is that the tickets have to issued indicating the specific municipality in which the violation occurred. With toll plaza timing, you know the average speed, but 1) you don't know in which municipality the violation occurred, and 2) you don't know in which of the many municipalities to issue the ticket.
And I have relatives over 80 years old, but what you're talking about never happened. |

| So you won't even ask them?
I don't know - I am only telling you what I was told from two people I trust completely, that were driving it 50 years ago. I wasn't driving until 1975. So before this goes any further, just ask your elderly relatives. |

Come on guys, this is clearly a hoax.
Anyone who drives knows the Thruway does not extend past Albany onto the Northway. Ergo, there are no tolls on the Northway. The road is free and has no EZ-Pass receivers.
And lets say pigs fly and this is true. When you get off the Thruway in Albany put your EZ-Pass back in its static bag and place it in your glove compartment. Now the tag cannot be read.
Not only that, but I fail to see a business relationship with Verizon, NYS and EZ-Pass. This sounds fishy in itself. |

| There are also no readers on the Bronx River Parkway for toll collections but that does not mean they could not install them for other purposes. Also, the article suggests they may install these devices into the reg. stickers. As for Verizon, they could be used to relay data from the readers to cell towers. That said, I can not find any legit site to back this up or debunk it. |

If "they" wanted to hand out tickets I'm sure they could have already done so on the GSP, NJTP and Thruway.
Lord knows I'd owe EZ-Pass a ton of money. |

just so you know if you ever get a red light ticket all you have to do is plead not guilty and it will get thrown out once the judge reviews the case. reason being is that there has to be an issuing officer that actually sees you breaking the law to validate the ticket. the tickets are sent out because they know most people will pay them without taking the time to plead guilty. Lastlt, i dont think they issus many of them anymore. |

Just a bit of legal information for you all. Last time I checked any ticket that is NOT issued be the officer that actually saw you violating a law is worthless. There have been lots of attempts to set up systems to monitor speeding vehicles, record the licence plate and issue a ticket but the main problem is a drivers licence is personal and there is no way to detect who the actual driver is in order to give the ticket to. Its not like a parking ticket that just goes against who ever owns the car. This system they are putting into place is strictly for safety purposes at this time. If anyone ever gets one of these so called speeding tickets do not pay it. Take it to court and plead not guilty. The ticket will be thrown out simply because there is no issuing officer to represent the law.
Trust me this is a HOAX. |

| reply to Midak Definitely a hoax. I have an EZ-Pass, regularly drive between Plattsburgh and Albany (151 miles of the Northway) at speeds that would generate roadside conversations with the friendly neighborhood trooper. I have never received a New York ticket of ANY kind in mail, though I have had a few roadside conversations!
Speed sensors (if they exist) aren't what you need to worry about on the Northway (the free part of I-87), its the NYSP patrols and speed traps. Tip: Wait until a Canadian doing a good number passes you, give him about a minute or two lead, then enjoy the ride. I don't push my luck on the Thruway -- Troop T has it covered too well. Construction zones are another place where you don't want to push your luck. |

@medcohealth.com | reply to Midak Seems the easy thing to do is to remove the EZ Pass from your window until you get to a toll. That way, if you pass any of these supposed trackers, it'll have nothing to track! |

| reply to Midak I want to thank you for all your comments, they are really quite good. But, getting to the point: the technology isn't here, yet. Look at the size of your current transmitter - the EZPass device itself. Please notice its size including its thickness. The writer of the warning is claiming that using RF the State of NY has been able to minaturize the device - which requires a battery - to one small enough to be embedded into that sticker on your windshield AND that the device can be read at significant speeds AND distances. I love sci-fi! And this is just the type of thing we sci-fi addicts love to read about. And I do believe at some point in the future some technology allowing this to happen will occur - but now is not the time. By the way, if the state can do this, it would more profitable to sell it to business - just look up RF in Google or your favorite search engine. (Yes, I have gotten speeding warnings involving tolls - and EZPass. So it is possible. The technology is quite good - a high speed photo of the license plate is taken - the car's owner gets a warning - you lose your EZPass privledges.) |
