Any suggestions on state parks in Fairfield County ?

Hi all,

I'm just looking for some suggestions on a state park to go hiking, walk around, or just chill out for a few hours.
Does anyone have any suggestions or reccomendations? I'm looking for something ideally in Fairfield county since I'm in Stamford.

I checked out the DEP website and saw a few in Ridgefield and Redding (collin huntington park, putnam, seth low...)
Are any of these places "nice" in your opinion? Convenient parking, any admission fees, etc?

Thanks for any suggestions

I've been to Huntington and Putnam. Both are free. Be careful at Huntington though. There used to be a lot of car break-ins there. It's very large. Putnam is much smaller and seems to be a little more commercial. Not saying that there isn't a bunch of open space but has a little more activity. There are two parts to Putnam. Make sure you check them both out. Huntington is pretty much a place to park and walk in the woods. There are trails and a lake but don't expect to find any other building or even see another person the whole time you are there.

Thanks for the feedback, I appreciate it. It'd be cool to go to a larger park but I don't want to have the idea that there's been a rash of break-ins in the back of my mind.

Anyone hear anything about or been to Seth low in Ridgefield?

You should also check out Tarrywile in Danbury. It's town-owned but has a wide range of hiking challenges, from easy to moderately strenuous. It's not far off Rt 7 just as it joins with I-84.

Devils Den in Redding is great. The trails are marked very well and it's beautiful.

Thanks, I wasn't aware of Devils Den either but it looks nice.

I went to Tarrywile this weekend, it was nice. I want to check out the other parks suggested here before it gets too too cold...not that cold/fall weather has been much of a problem lately.

This may not be quite what you were looking for. There is the Larsons Farm Market in Brookfield, which has a corn maze and 3 miles of trails. It has a related haunted corn field feature. Visit »www.larsonsfarmmarket.com/cornMaze.php to find out more if interested.

I'm actually into stuff like that too. I went to Larsons Farm two weeks ago for the moonlight and haunted corn maze. First time I ever tried anything like it and it was fun

Figure an hour and 20 minute drive each way, outside of rush hour

the Sloane Stanley Museum is a mile or three from there as well, if that may be of interest to you, although they close for the season on 10/28
