You guys stay as safe as you all can!

Question for you all - Do you all go thru this every year or is it especially bad this time?
Every year and worse this year because of the drought...I think this is the third major fire in Malibu in my lifetime, about one major blaze every 15-20 years, with all kinds of small fires.

We act this way all the time.

Oh, you meant ...

We get strong Santa Ana winds here several times a year. One good blow in October seems like a given. The severity varies greatly over the area. A few miles away can mean getting nothing.

The drought is especially bad right now, so hot dry winds almost ensure fires. Some are deliberate, some set through carelessness and some are accidental (a malfunctioning catalytic converter or down power line).

Every year, especially in the Fall. Some years are worse than others, it all depends on the Santa Ana Winds.

9 major wildland fires working in So Cal atm. 1 fatality, 4 firefighter injuries, both down in the Witch Creek area of San
Diego County.
I believe the death and the injuries happened at the Harris fire near Potrero.

quote:
Five firefighters were injured when their fire engine was overtaken by the Harris Fire, Sunday afternoon. That fire had blackened about 2,500 acres by 2:45 p.m., according to Roxanne Provaznik of CalFire. The injured firefighters were taken by air ambulance to a burn center for treatment. The body of a civilian was also found in that burn area, but officials had no details on the person's identity. Four other civilians have been injured

According to my source, it's burning over the hill in Santiago Canyon. Shot these 30 minutes or so ago. One looking up toward the canyon and Orange, two toward the West and the old El Toro base.

Just went out to get a bite to eat in Aliso Viejo and the Santiago Canyon fire is absolutely exploding off to the north. Can see flames here and we are 10 miles due south or so. People are stopping in their cars on some of the roads with good views to check it out.

Thanks. We went out and I got a few (dozen) photos too. Haven't had a chance to get them off the camera yet.

I can see red/orange glowing smoke from my front porch, but it's a few miles away.
