Should I buy a digital tv?

I still have an analogue traditional standard definition tv.

Should I buy a digital tv? I plan on keeping it until it dies. then get a digital one.

The OBVIOUS thing is you wouldn't buy an analogue tv above 13 inches. They will be soon discontinued so the only tv's that will be left in the market MUST at a minimum be DIGITAL, ANALOGUE hybrids, capable of DIGITAL tv signal conversion under the ASTC label.. what would have helped the consumer is some better EDUCATION with a "ATSC" Digital television logo.

Keep it, but if you dont get a digital tuner after Feb 17, 2009 you aren't gong to get anything on your TV using an attena.

AND I WOULD imagine that the cost of a new tuner, and having it installed, would be about or equal to a new tv .

Hooking a tuner up is as easy as hooking up a DVD player or cable box. You can do it yourself for free. As I said you get a $40 coupon from Uncle Sam to go towards your tuner. And you can get on for $80 so that's really $40. And the prices will probably drop by Feb 2009.

I'll watch out for those prices.

Can you just buy an adapter, so you can connect digital to analog?

So you wouldn't get HD, but you can still use the TV for awhile longer.

I am keeping my old Sony KV-1972R until the bitter end (and maybe beyond). Since I purchased it back in 1985, I have had to replace the speaker (1986), voltage regulator (1994) and just last year the flyback transformer (which burned out with a cloud of acrid smoke). It works fine with cable.

Re: Should I buy a digital tv?

Wow! I used to sell those wholesale at Bryce in NYC on 40th street. They sure last a good long time. They will continue to work with cable as long as the cable company does their job.

Re: Should I buy a digital tv?

I have always been impressed with Sony hardware. Their TV's do manage to hold up a long time. Had I not had the talent to do the repairs myself I would have had to scrap it already since the cost for someone to fix it for me would have been more than picking up a cheapo replacement.

I sure it's a fine TV and I can understand not wanting to spend money when you don't have to... but even under the best of circumstances those 22 year old pixels can't be glowing the way they did when you first bought it.

Watching that thing has got to be brutal on the eyes by now.

What does size have to do with it? My little pocket sized 5 inch TV that I take to football games is going in the trash after the 2008 season because it has an analog tuner.

Re: Should I buy a digital tv?

maybe these tuners will eventually be very small and cheap, so keep your tv for awhile
