(I sure do like the new logo better than v. 7's.)
Uhm... this is 7.01

Hey, free is good!
7.01 is an older version as well. I am using 7.1.0.(The site calls is 7.10) Could they just be offering an earlier version for free in hopes to sucker you into upgrading to the latest and greatest? Again!

Uh huh...
2008 has no Backup options and no Burn Movies option.

Love this software! My only complaint is that all versions seem to be a slow loaders in Vista. They load much faster in XP. Doubt there's much of a solution but it'd be nice if anyone had any ideas.

Thanks again for the heads up!

The obvious one-- yet not likely the one you want to hear.

Good luck.

Do you mean "upgrade" to XP (actually I have both, each OS on a separate drive)? Hope it won't cause a stir but I am a Vista fan (though not particularly a Microsoft fan, if that apparent paradox can be reconciled).

This just looks like an earlier version that is being repackaged. They offered ABS 6 free before ABS 7 came out, so perhaps v.8's arrival is near.

That's how I started with ABS, by taking advantage of one of these free offers. Then when the next version came out, I was offered it at a reduced price.

Geeeeeeeeeez! These anti-Vista people jump at every opportunity to trash it! LOL
FWIW, ABS loads equally fast for me in XP and Vista (using 6.50).

Edited for typo.

I didn't say that.
But yes, that's the 'obvious' answer. I don't think this is the first or only piece of software that doesn't seem to perform correctly on Vista. Whether or not that's Vista's fault or Ashampoo's, I don't know.

I'm pretty much all done denigrating Vista. People are free for themselves to see how it performs and acts, and what kind of bang they're getting for their buck.
My only statement on that matter is that I think, by and large, many folks who have tried it have come to realize what I and many others felt about it all along-- and I think just the tip of the iceberg has so far been uncovered.

But that has little to do with this thread, other than to address any issues that may or may not exist between Vista and Ashampoo.
Vista is out there, and each individual must decide for themselves if they consider it worth running, and/or whether or not they want to run it. It doesn't affect me much, one way or the other.

But until a better solution is uncovered, I'll simply say again that there is an obvious, though possibly not desired answer for you-- don't use Ashampoo on your Vista machine. Use something that works well with Vista.

Best of luck with it. Seriously.

I just tried 6.5 again even though I knew I had tried it before. Just doesn't seem to make any difference--still the same slow opening of the program. There's a bug in the 6.5 uninstall (says cannot open install.log). I've gotten around it by clicking on the unwise.exe file directly (in the uninstall folder in ASB 6 program files), which brings up the install log in the file manager and then renaming that to BS6_uninstall.exe. Then the uninstall works. I was also sent a utility specifically to uninstall this version from Ashampoo after I complained--it's on my work machine, however.

Back to the slow load, I have scoured around and found several other freeware burning programs that I use when I have less patience. A couple I really like is Infra Recorder and Free Easy Burner (though had a problem installing Easy Burner 2.0, so I use 1.3.1). I don't have any other problem with any of the Ashampoo burners--in fact, once you get them open, they work flawlessly.

Thanks Howie and ArgleBargle--can always count on both of you!

Don't look at me when you say that, pal!

I was merely offering one possible solution.

Anyone else having problems submitting their email address for registration? I've submitted 3 different valid email addresses and get 3 refusals. I've submitted a DSLR address, a Sneakemail address and a valid Comcast address.

Edit: I finally had to create an email address at one of my domains to register.

I know all the ABS programs go through the "enumerating drives" when opening. Is that where you notice the slowdown? None of the versions open instantly for me in XP or Vista, taking about 7 seconds in either OS. (3.3Ghz Processor, 2GB of RAM).

Absolutely nothing and not nearly as good if you already have that bloatware Nero!!

But, I still might try this on one of my old, slow, junky computers!! Didn't care for it the first time I tried it.

Nero is better but people today don't like downloading 180 meg file just so they can install Nero Burning ROM and nothing else.

I installed all the apps I liked and it took 300 megs of total space. That's eleven apps and Nero Tools and all the help files.
