said by dadkins :. . 2008 has no Backup options and no Burn Movies option. Good of them to make this offer, but in that case I'll just stick with the 6.5 version that I like quite well. Thanks for that info, Dave! |

Personally I've had no issues with Ashampoo products. I don't know why so many people don't like them. And as for burning I've not had any problems with it that would make me use Nero. Which I also have. |

Doubt there's much of a solution but it'd be nice if anyone had any ideas. Actually i have noticed that on my Vista laptop this loads much faster than it does on my Win XP Pro desktop on the laptop it pops up almost instantly 2-5 second delay on the desktop it is a good 10-15 second delay |

said by howie :said by takeahike : I know all the ABS programs go through the "enumerating drives" when opening. Is that where you notice the slowdown? None of the versions open instantly for me in XP or Vista, taking about 7 seconds in either OS. (3.3Ghz Processor, 2GB of RAM). Ok, I timed it, with the new version, 2008. And I timed it with a 'second' load so theoretically it should be a little faster. In XP I don't even see that 'enumerating drives' and it takes four (that's right four) seconds from the time I click on the desktop icon until I get the screen where I have to choose what I want to do. With Vista, it just sits there on that 'enumerating drives' seemingly forever and takes 32 (that's right 32) seconds to get to the screen to choose what to do. The machine is an Athlon XP 3000+ with 2 Gigs RAM. Vista drive a 500 Gig parallel WD, pretty sure with a 16 meg buffer, and the XP drive is a 250 Gig parallel WD with only an 8 meg buffer. I guess I should note that this problem seems peculiar to ABS--I really don't have this problem otherwise in Vista. I will say that in general Vista is a little slower, though not excessively so. |

(no idea what though, sorry) Because of your posts I tried timing the start-up and it's fully up and running in 4.07 seconds with Vista Ultimate on my machine |

When you run the installation program it prompts you to register with Ashampoo. The reg key you need to fully unlock the program is sent to the e-mail address you provide. I'd do it before November 8th just to be on the safe side. You can always uninstall it. Just hold on to the reg key in case you want to reinstall later or on another machine. |

This download offer expires 08/11/2007. The publisher reserves the right to stop this offer at anytime without notice. I wouldn't wait too long. If they get too many freebie registration requests they may pull the plug early. -- Toolmaster of La Grange. |

| reply to Steely I'm using an ancient Easy CD Creator 5 Basic. I mainly do data backups, so I don't need anything fancy. But I have been thinking it might be time to get something newer. The one thing I like about Easy CD Creator is, that it allows me to just drag and drop a file or folder to be burned to a backup CD. Does Ashampoo Burning Studio have this same option? I really don't want to install it and then uninstall it if I don't like it. Just getting lazy I guess. |
