[General] Cancel home phone but keep EL DSL?

Hi
I want to cancel my att home phone service, but keep my earthlink dsl. I want to use my cell phone instead of $50 a month for local phone, but can i do this and keep my earthlink dsl active? ATT is giving me the runaround of course.

No. You can't. When you cancel your landline, you automatically cancel your Earthlink plus you break your contract with Earthlink if you are in your 12 month initial term which generates a $150.00 ETF (Early Termination Fee)....

quote:
5. ACCOUNT REQUIREMENTS
In order to receive the Service:

* You must be at least 18 years old and provide a valid credit card
* The Service must be available to your location
* You must keep your telephone service active in order for the Service to work and you are responsible for charges for the Service regardless of the status of your underlying telephone service

Changing telephone service providers will result in substantial interruption of the Service and will result in fees associated with cancellation and setting up a new account

I have had EL for 5 years now so i am not in a contract. I have read of the phone carriers having packages available for you to keep the line active for dsl but have no local service for like $10 a month, there are articles about it on google and that ATT has it,but they have no idea what i am talking about when i call them.

That is great. All that will happen is that you will cancel/void your DSL "month to month" service with Earthlink but not generate a ETF. Plus, if you want to get it turned back on it will cost to re-instate the service due to the downtime that you will experience.

This isn't AT&T DSL. You are not eligible for AT&T DSL/Telco bundled benefits. With Earthlink you must have an active telephone line aka it cannot be set on vacation mode.

This might be what the OP is talking about though it may not be available in the OP's area.
