| [Speed] Strange gateway issue
I lost connectivity today, but only for DNS. Before I knew it was DNS related, I tried logging into the SA modem, of which I only know the MAC address. Since my router told me my DHCP address, I first tried to ping it. You see that looks a bit slow, so I did a tracert to the DHCP server, which I assumed was my modem. Not so, as the gateway is 71.170.11.156, and that address conincidentally is a DNS server...
I really have to wonder why my first hop is 18 hops instead of 2.

| reply to tao Okay, Comcast was having issues in my area, when Internet service was back up, my gateway ip is: 71.197.16.145. Now one hop to that address in less than 1ms.
I really did not post this for anyone to correct what I saw. I posted a cut and paste from a tracert. Sure that could be done to any address, but I will place my posting history on this site against me being some wacko creating an issue. None the less, it does seem a bit out there for comcast to feed my router that gateway address. Then again, if they did, then that would explain why my connection did not work. |

Just curious; but wouldn't your gateway be more like, [68.86.140.150]?
