-Thanks-

Good Question!

I am not a salesman for DSLX and I without knowing anything about your current service it would be hard for me to tell you any advantages you may have from switching from the Verizon network to the DSLExtreme network.

What I can say is we do our best to provide a reasonably priced service with excellent customer service.

What do you need from your ISP? and I can probably tell you better how/if DSLX is the right choice for you!

I am also not a salesman for DSLX (more like a fanboy!) but I will tell you briefly that if you know what you want from your internet connection you can't do much better DSL-wise than DSL Extreme.

I worked 5 years for a media company with whom DSLX spends a lot on advertising, so I was hearing about them a lot. Personal contact with "the computer guy" who had a show with us sold me.

If I ever have a problem, one post in this forum, and it'll get fixed. I never call tech support anymore.

Personally, I won't go anywhere else.

However, if you just surf the internet and all you are concerned about is price, price & price, you might get a better deal from the RBOC. You'll be missing out, though. The support (especially via the DSL Reports forum) is without compare.

(Caveat: These are my experiences only and are not intended to convey that it is similar to anybody else's experiences.)

I never had verizon, but i do have dslextreme and i also have at&t. At work i switched my dsl from dslextreme to at&t. Main reason, less middle man the better plus i get nice discount for having multiple service from them. If you got multiple service from verizon and get discount then i would see no reason to switch unless you're not happy with verizon. Basically, when you can cut the middle man out, it's a good thing.

If you're happy with Verizon then I suggest you stay, but I would normally not recommend them unless you wanted to use FIOS. I've found I'm usually happiest with smaller companies that compete based on support. Where I currently live my real decision was between DSLEXtreme and Sonic.net.

Obviously Verizon must charge DSLExtreme more for the lines because SBC/DSLX is 30-50% less than Verizon/DSLX. I moved to Verizon for DSL after several years with DSLX. Price was my only motivation, but it was significant. Twice the speed at 70% of the cost I was paying. Surprisingly, Verizon has been great for the last year. YMMV.

Don't get me wrong. DSLX was a great ISP for us, but our budget didn't allow us the extra cost for better support.

Dslextreme actually no longer a small company that it used to be. It got bought by a big company about 1 year ago. I am not sure how hands on or off that company is with dslextreme.

I went to DSL-Extreme from SBC/Pacbell (now AT&T) as SBC did not offer any renewal incentives (i.e. SBC 1.5/256 after 1 year @ 29.95 was going up to $39.95), and DSL-Extreme was listing 1.5/384 @ $24.95 with DHCP vs. PPPoE and running Fastpath vs. Interleaved. Tech support was (is) local So-Cal and now Salt Lake City vs. India, as well as here on dslreports.com.

In general, DSL-Extreme has better tech support for the same cost, and did not require bundling of LD (when I originally had SBC, LD was required). DSL-Ex has had very few outages/issues, and has been very responsive to these forums, compared to AT&T, for the same price. I only wish that I could get the 6Mbps package.

Don't change if you're happy with Verizon. I have Dslextreme and I haven't been happy with them for the past 6 months - can't wait to change ISP. Customer service use to be very good but recently has gotten worse.
