Not true. I was able to watch all my local channels, ESPN, CNN, HBO, Showtime and some others. I still had my internet connection too.

When I had cable, an outage took down everything.

While I (personally) could live with a 6Mbps (even 3Mbps) line, I don't think I'd appreciate having my TV service disconnected with no real explanation

Happens all the time with Time Warner. Cable Companies don't know how to run a network. Never have, Never will.
