NOT bringing image quality, etc. into this, but a roll of that stuff cost as much as my 2gb SD card, lol. I'm too damn cheap to pay for film and get it developed. |

| reply to rogue_ Oh but, think of how absolutely sharp the photos will be. Even at huge print sizes! I've never actually seen a film that offers what this one does before. The temptation is too much! -- Bozone (n.): The substance surrounding stupid people that stops bright ideas from penetrating. |

| reply to rogue_ Nah. It's a hassle. Although I would like to know what my kids did with my Pentax K1000. It's MIA. I was tempted to buy a Canon Elan not too long ago, but I kept getting outbid on ebay and I'm too cheap to get into the bidding wars (Shop Victoriously! pooh). I would like to see how my full frame Canon lenses do on a 35mm. Anybody like to donate a Canon EOS film camera to the cause? Hah. |

| reply to rogue_ Yep, never stopped shooting film and never will! Digital just can NOT compete with film when it comes to B&W. Nor does a dSLR or even FF (almost, but the look just isn't quite right) compare to the detail film can produce in larger print sizes. -- Images are Copyrighted and use is NOT permitted. | Have you ever used this Bluefire Police film?
Actually, I'm thinking I should grab a cheap Pentax 35mm so I can shoot some macros with the Vivi series 1 105mm and this film.. Looks like it could be good fun. -- Bozone (n.): The substance surrounding stupid people that stops bright ideas from penetrating. |

| reply to rogue_ I still shoot my Nikon EM with Kodachrome 64. For very large print sizes I shoot with my Canon XTi. I've read somewhere that 35mm is equal to an FF at about 8.2MP.

| I'm not sure that I fully agree with the article you referenced. Granted, if you print directly out of the camera (either film to print or jpeg to print) he's probably quite right. This point of view completely neglects the wonderful things that can be done in digital post. Scan a 35mm slide or neg at 1200dpi and the world's your oyster.
NeatImage is simply amazing for film work. Because film is an analogue medium, detail doesn't have distinct boundaries but falls off gradually. This means that you can suck out more detail than you would expect when the scanned image is properly manipulated. You also have complete control over the amount of grain that you choose to keep in the image for effect.
Once you have properly "cleaned up" your original by manually removing dust and other imperfections you have an original that will rival any digital original. The trick is that you can't use software "dust removal" - it sucks. Your final product will only be a reflection of the effort that you put into it. One of the recent shots I worked on used a 56Mp original from a 2¼ MF colour negative. Try that with a digicam (unless you have a $37k Hassey). |

| reply to rogue_ I think the OP was wondering if anyone still shot with their 35mm because of this new film he came across called Bluefire Police - Grainless B&W.
I'm fairly certain the OP was looking for thoughts on the film.. -- Bozone (n.): The substance surrounding stupid people that stops bright ideas from penetrating. |

| reply to Dream Killer said by Dream Killer :II've read somewhere that 35mm is equal to an FF at about 8.2MP. I don't know of any good numbers, but there is a wide variation in resolution between different films. 25 ASA B&W vs. 400 ASA B&W will be very, very different. Then there's variations in exposure, processing chemistry... |

| reply to rogue_ Film is great but I have a suitcase full of prints from shooting over the years, it is a PITA cataloging and storing all of that stuff! Don't get me starting with scanning, I don't have the time!
Besides, I like the control of my own digital dark room.
No, no more film for me!
EDIT: now that the title of the thread has changed from "Anyone still shooting 35mm film?", no, I have not shot with Bluefire Police film... |
