Problems with sending and receiving SOME email.

I have been with ATT/SBC about 4 years and have the Speed Stream 5100. About one year after starting service, I realized that:

I wasn't getting ALL my emails coming in and some people weren't receiving my emails going out to them.

All called Tech support repeatedly but they couldn't find any reason for the loss and kept insisting it was my filters. I KNOW THAT IT WASN"T. I'm ready to switch providers. Help.

Log into web email via »https://login.yahoo.com/

Check your Bulk folder. If you find non-spam stuff there, you have three choices. You could mark them as not spam so the system learns, you could add the senders to your online address book, or you could turn off spam filtering. Click Options to set things differently.

I have nothing to suggest regarding your outgoing emails. Maybe they are getting caught in the receiver's filtering.

I've done all that. I had someone email a file that was on a computer that wasn't hooked to our network. The computer was about 30 feet away. It was sent to my business email...from my business email. So it was sent to the ATT/Yahoo server and should have been retreived off the the same server. I NEVER got it. I just don't know how much buiness I am losing and how much is getting thru.

I have gotten into the habit of telling people that if they don't get a response from saying that I got their email, to call me. The same when they are expecting something from me..."if you haven't gotten it, call me."

This is just too frustrating.

Ok, well if there was a wide spread issue it would probably be news here.

What mail server and port are you using?

What do you mean by your "business email"? Are you not sending from xyz@sbcglobal.net to xyz@sbcglobal.net?

My mail server is sbcglobal.net. I am not sure what you mean about "what port."

It is not; that is your email domain. You should be using 'pop.att.yahoo.com' and port 995 with SSL.

Guess the question was whether you use the SSL ports (995 inbound, 465 outbound) per Dennis' link »Ameritech - SBC FAQ

Do you think you know what he means by his "business email"? Suppose he populates the From field with some private domain email address.

Re: Problems with sending and receiving SOME email.

ljbutler1951,

We can help here. It's entirely possible you missed some of the mail server setting changes over the past few years.

Someone asked you first off to sign on to »att.yahoo.com with your ameritech.net userID and password from a web browser. That will send mail using the most current servers. If that doesn't get through, then you indeed do have a major problem. If it does, you'll need to change your server settings in your e-mail program (actually, I'm sure you will, but the first step is to convince you).

We'll need to know what e-mail program you're using so we can tell you where to go to make the changes. YOU'LL need to know your password, and you'll need to check it by signing in to the website mentioned in the previous paragraph.

It's not going to be that hard to make things work, but it will help to have the specifics. Stay calm. We're here to help.

StillLearn is the only way you can feel good about yourself is by ridiculing others? If you can't say anything nice, then be quiet.

Norm, I screwed up. It is pop.sbc.yahoo.com. Now for the port. Where do I find that info?

I am using Outlook Express.

'pop.sbc.yahoo.com' is deprecated. You should now be using 'pop.att.yahoo.com.' All the information you should need for MS Outlook Express 6 is here:

I'd send this privately if you had an ID on the system.

StillLearn said nothing wrong. Nobody here works for AT&T, so nobody has to help you at all. You'd best thicken your skin and develop a little humility. We're users, just like you, and we want to help. But nobody here wants to abuse you.

I dont know if this makes a difference. I suddemly got 25 emails all 2 weeks old that should have been sent to me weeks ago. But in that time I was getting a message or 2 and succesfully sending email here and there; but wondered my my forum confirmation were not getting sent to me along with other important emails I was expecting. Then all of a sudden they all poured thru 25 all 2 weeks old.
